THE PROBLEM Institutions are asked to open new sites, keep small specialities alive and share scarce faculty — with a generalist video-conferencing tool that was never designed for a classroom. The lecturer ends up operating the technology instead of teaching, and the students on the other end quietly drop out of the session.
