THE PROMISE With ultrasound a doctor can see into the heart of someone in cardiac arrest or into the abdomen of a woman with an ectopic pregnancy, and save their lives. 75 years after its invention, ultrasound remains an indispensable tool for diagnosis and monitoring. THE PROBLEM 60% of the world lacks access to medical imaging because current technologies are unwieldy, expensive, and require extensive training. While doctors carry supercomputers in their pockets, they still rely on the 200-year old stethoscope as their primary diagnostic tool. THE SOLUTION Our mission is to democratize healthcare by making medical imaging accessible to everyone around the world. Butterfly Network has raised >$350M to develop and commercialize a handheld, smartphone-connected ultrasound probe powered by AI. We operate at the intersection of medicine, engineering, and machine learning to create breakthrough technology that becomes smarter with each new patient.

As population continues to age, there is a growing demand for motor rehabilitation services. The problem is that the way we address this growth or rehabilitation services (physical therapy) has not changed in thirty years because we are still heavily reliant on a one-to-one patient therapist interaction which is costly, non scalable, and difficult to ensure consistent quality. At SWORD Health, we saw the opportunity to take a truly disruptive and transformative approach to this problem by creating the first digital therapy solution that addresses the growing demand for therapy while reducing costs, empowering patients with their recovery to ultimately recover faster, and providing a rich source of data for clinical teams and decision makers. Proximie is a technology platform that uses a combination of machine learning, artificial intelligence and augmented reality to allow clinicians to virtually ‘scrub in’ and collaborate with each other from anywhere in the world. Proximie allows multiple people in remote locations to virtually interact in a way which mimics what they would experience if they were collaborating in the same operating room. It means they can physically show each other where to make an incision, in real-time, or use physical gestures to illustrate a technique. We are growing fast and recently secured a $38million series B funding round. “I founded Proximie based on the ethos that shared knowledge leads to accelerated learning and better patient care,” Proximie’s CEO and Founder, Nadine Hachach-Haram FRCS (Plast), BEM, explains. “Proximie was built to allow experts to virtually scrub-in to operating rooms and cath labs around the world, to support, coach and mentor each other, and to really look at the continuum of expertise throughout a surgeon’s career. What we wanted to do with Proxmie was to create a multi-sensory experience that was a catalyst for collaboration that could also digitise a surgeon’s footprint. The important thing about the way we designed the platform from the outset was that we didn’t want Proximie to be a siloed product offering. I needed it to extend across the whole surgical industry, or ecosystem within the hospital, which are incredibly varied, complex and differ in every clinical setting.”
