Lead Collibra Developer / Data Governance Engineer
(8+ Years Experience)
Location: San Francisco, CA Experience: 8+ years Employment Type: Full-Time Work Model: On-site / Hybrid, based on business requirements
Job Summary
We are looking for a senior Collibra Developer / Data Governance Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and support of enterprise data governance solutions on the Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud platform. This is a hands-on leadership role: the right candidate pairs deep Collibra configuration and integration expertise with the judgment to define governance operating models, set standards, and mentor teams across Data Governance, Data Engineering, Business, and Technology.
The role owns the technical direction for data governance — improving data quality, discoverability, ownership, and compliance at enterprise scale.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, configuration, and maintenance of Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud components across licensed modules (Catalog, Lineage, Quality, Privacy).
Architect and govern Collibra operating models — communities, domains, asset types, attributes, relations, and responsibilities — aligned to the enterprise governance strategy.
Design, develop, and maintain Collibra workflows, business rules, and governance processes, including complex Groovy-based logic.
Define and drive the data governance and metadata management strategy, standards, and adoption roadmap.
Own data cataloging, data lineage, data classification, and data stewardship programs end to end.
Architect and build integrations between Collibra and enterprise data platforms, catalogs, and metadata sources using Collibra REST APIs, Java APIs, and web services, plus harvesting (Connect/JDBC, Lineage Harvester, Edge).
Partner with data engineering teams to onboard technical and business metadata at scale.
Lead data ownership, stewardship, glossary management, and policy implementation across business units.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex Collibra configuration, workflow, integration, and performance issues; establish preventive standards.
Translate business data governance requirements into scalable technical solutions, and communicate trade-offs to technical and executive stakeholders.
Mentor and guide developers and analysts; lead design reviews and raise the team's technical bar.
Drive testing, deployment, documentation, and production support, ensuring solutions meet organizational data management and compliance standards.
Required Skills
8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Metadata Management, or Data Management, with significant hands-on Collibra ownership.
Deep hands-on experience with the Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud platform.
Proven configuration of Collibra Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Data Governance, and workflows.
Strong command of governance concepts: data ownership, data stewardship, metadata management, data lineage, data quality, business glossary, and data classification.
Experience designing and building Collibra REST API / web-service integrations.
Strong SQL and relational database skills.
Experience with data warehouses, data lakes, or cloud data platforms.
Experience with API-based integrations and JSON/XML.
Proficiency in scripting — Groovy (required for workflows), plus Python or JavaScript.
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale governance programs and mentoring technical teams.
Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, and executive-presentation skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills
Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience integrating Collibra with enterprise data platforms and metadata tools.
Knowledge of ETL/ELT tools.
Experience with data lineage tools and metadata harvesting.
Knowledge of Data Quality and Data Observability concepts.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Collibra certification is a plus.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field.
What We're Looking For
Deep technical command of Collibra and enterprise data governance.
Ability to set direction and work independently while leading cross-functional collaboration.
Strong communication and documentation skills, including executive-level storytelling.
Ability to translate business data governance requirements into scalable technical solutions.
A proactive, ownership-driven approach to identifying and resolving governance challenges.
