About the job
VegaCap is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer Intern to work across our products and engineering systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role. You will work on real product requirements, customer-reported issues, internal tooling, and new capabilities—often taking problems from initial context through implementation, testing, and deployment.
We are looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, excellent product and design judgment, and a high level of proficiency with modern AI-assisted development workflows.
What you’ll work on
- Build and ship production features across VegaCap’s products.
- Work across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and internal tooling.
- Investigate, reproduce, and resolve product and customer-reported issues.
- Test releases and improve the reliability and quality of existing systems.
- Translate loosely defined product requirements into well-considered technical solutions.
- Build internal tools and automate repetitive engineering and operational workflows.
- Work closely with the team to iterate quickly from problem to production.
AI-native engineering
AI-assisted development is a core part of how we work.
You should be highly proficient with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar agentic development environments, and comfortable using them across the software-development lifecycle—from understanding an unfamiliar codebase and researching an implementation to writing, debugging, testing, and reviewing code.
We value the ability to use these systems effectively while maintaining strong engineering judgment. You should be able to evaluate generated code, identify incorrect assumptions, understand the systems you modify, and take responsibility for the quality of what you ship.
Product & design
We care deeply about the quality of the products we build.
You should have strong visual and product judgment and be able to implement polished interfaces without requiring every detail to be specified in a design file.
You should care about typography, spacing, hierarchy, responsive behaviour, interaction design, accessibility, and the small details that distinguish a finished product from a merely functional one.
Familiarity with Figma and modern product-design workflows is valuable.
What we’re looking for
- Strong programming and software-engineering fundamentals.
- Experience building modern web applications.
- Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript and React or comparable technologies.
- Significant hands-on experience with AI coding agents and AI-assisted development.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent product and visual design judgment.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar systems and codebases quickly.
- Attention to detail and a high standard for the quality of shipped work.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and operate in a fast-moving environment.
Prior professional experience is not required. Personal projects, open-source contributions, freelance work, experiments, and products you have built independently are all relevant.
We care more about the quality of your work, your ability to learn, and how you approach difficult problems
