About the job
Timbre is an audio and video editing app for Android, live on Google Play and used by an active user base. People use Timbre to cut, join, convert, compress and transform media on their phones, with heavier AI-powered features running on our backend.
We’re looking for an Android Developer to take ownership of the app end to end. You’ll build features, fix bugs reported by real users, keep the app reliable across Android versions and devices, and help ship releases through the Play Console.
What you’ll work on:
• Build audio and video editing features including trimming, joining, format conversion, compression, GIFs and watermarking
• Work on media uploads and background processing, including progress, retries and notifications
• Integrate Android with backend APIs for accounts, cloud storage and AI-powered operations
• Work with Google Play Billing for subscriptions and in-app purchases
• Manage releases, including signed builds, Play Console uploads, release notes and staged rollouts
• Improve quality through crash triage, automated testing and on-device testing
You’ll be the dedicated Android developer on the product, so this is a role with real ownership and a broad scope of work. Rather than owning a small part of a large application, you’ll become the person who knows the Android app end to end.
Our stack includes Kotlin, Coroutines, XML/ViewBinding, MVVM, Retrofit, OkHttp, WorkManager, Room, FFmpegKit, Media3/ExoPlayer, Play Billing, Firebase, Gradle Kotlin DSL and GitHub Actions.
What we’re looking for:
• An app on the Google Play Store that you’ve worked on, please include the link and what parts you owned
• Solid Kotlin, including coroutines
• Strong understanding of Android fundamentals: activities, fragments, XML layouts, RecyclerView and lifecycle
• Experience working with REST APIs from Android and handling failures such as timeouts, offline states and expired sessions
• Working knowledge of Gradle and comfort debugging on a real device
• Experience using Git in a team environment
• Clear written English
Media experience, WorkManager, Play Billing, Play Console releases and crash triage are all strong pluses.
A computer science degree, Jetpack Compose, backend experience and prior FFmpeg knowledge are required.
