About Ota Life

Ota Life is an all-in-one platform for anime fans in India and Japan. Fans can watch short reels, play anime quiz battles, join fan communities, vote on creator ideas, collect points and badges, and buy merchandise and event tickets.
The same platform powers ticketing and QR check-in for Ōta TOKYO, our live anime festivals, which bring together tens of thousands of fans.
We are a small, fast-moving team where you will work directly on a live product with real users, real payments and real festival deadlines.

About the Role

We are looking for a Full Stack JavaScript Developer who is comfortable working across React Native, Node.js and React.
Our product is built using JavaScript and TypeScript across a React Native mobile app for iOS and Android, a Node.js API and a React web application.
You will work closely with the tech lead and gradually take ownership of features end to end, from screens and APIs to data, testing and releases.

What You Will Do

• Build new screens and features using React Native + TypeScript for iOS and Android
• Design and build REST APIs using Node.js and Express
• Work with MySQL and Prisma for data modelling and schema changes
• Extend our React web application, including consumer pages, admin dashboards and shop owner portals
• Turn product feedback into shipped features and fix bugs reported by users and the team
• Work with integrations including Razorpay, in-app purchases, push notifications, email, analytics and CMS
• Help keep ticketing and QR check-in reliable during festival traffic
• Test on simulators, emulators and real devices
• Write tests using Jest and help keep CI reliable
• Support releases through EAS, TestFlight, Play Console and Google Cloud
• Help maintain English and Japanese translations
• Use AI coding tools responsibly to improve development speed while reviewing generated code carefully

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, confident in their abilities, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.

• Strong JavaScript fundamentals and working knowledge of TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with React or React Native
• Hands-on Node.js experience with Express or a similar framework
• Understanding of REST API design
• SQL fundamentals and experience with an ORM
• Comfortable with Git and collaborative development
• Strong communication skills. You should be able to clearly explain your ideas, decisions, progress and challenges.
• Confidence in your technical abilities and willingness to take responsibility for your work
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability. We want someone who can take a task, understand what needs to be done, and drive it through to completion.
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask for help
• Attention to detail and willingness to take responsibility for the quality of what you ship
• Shipped projects through a job, internship, freelance work or personal projects
