Senior Software Engineer, Backend / Full Stack

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to join a growing Healthcare AI team.

You will work on production systems that support AI-powered healthcare workflows. The role involves building and scaling backend services, developing LLM and Generative AI workflows, and taking ownership of projects from early prototypes through production deployment.

This role suits an engineer who has worked in an early-stage startup environment and enjoys high ownership, fast execution, and hands-on engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and ship backend services and infrastructure that integrate with LLMs and Generative AI models.

• Lead zero-to-one engineering projects, from MVP development through scalable production systems.

• Design and improve backend architecture for performance, reliability, scalability, and security.

• Build systems that support AI-powered healthcare workflows.

• Improve observability, monitoring, testing, and code quality across backend services.

• Help scale existing products as the company expands to more healthcare organizations.

• Work closely with engineers and technical leadership in a lean engineering environment.

• Contribute across the stack where needed, with a primary focus on backend engineering.

Required Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Strong backend development experience using Python.

• Experience working at an early-stage startup, ideally from Pre-Seed through Series B.

• Experience building and shipping production software.

• Experience with LLMs, Generative AI, or AI-powered production systems.

• Strong understanding of backend architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience taking technical projects from concept to production.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to explain technical decisions and code clearly.

• High ownership and ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Healthcare, HealthTech, or B2B healthcare software.

• Experience working with AI or machine learning products.

• A degree or strong academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Evidence of strong technical achievement through career progression, leadership, high-growth startups, or other technical accomplishments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates will typically have:

• Around 5 to 8 years of software engineering experience.

• Strong hands-on Python and backend engineering expertise.

• Meaningful experience at an early-stage startup.

• Experience building products or major systems from zero to one.

• Sustained impact within previous roles.

• A stable employment history with limited short-term job changes.

• Experience primarily within the United States.

• A willingness to work onsite in San Francisco three days per week.
