About the job
Asgard Aerospace is building the execution layer for aerospace manufacturing.
Today, production across the aerospace and defense industry is fragmented across thousands of independent facilities, with no unified system governing how work moves, how compliance is preserved, or how capacity is coordinated.
We are building that system.
Launchbelt coordinates how parts are routed, quoted, produced, and tracked across distributed suppliers, enforcing traceability, compliance, and production logic at every step. This defines how hardware moves from design to certified output.
We are assembling the engineering team responsible for building it.
Role Focus: Core Logic, Workflow Systems, and Automation
Role Summary
As a Backend Systems Engineer, you will build the core logic that drives the Launchbelt platform.
You will design and implement the systems that determine how parts move through routing, quoting, and production workflows. This includes encoding real-world manufacturing constraints into software and ensuring that every state transition is correct, traceable, and reliable.
This role is focused on system behavior and correctness. You are responsible for building the engines that make the platform function.
What You Will Own
Design and implement backend systems for routing, quoting, and production workflows
Build the routing engine that matches parts to suppliers based on capability and constraints
Develop the quote engine that manages supplier responses and decision logic
Implement production tracking systems that manage state transitions and progress updates
Design and maintain REST APIs serving all platform data and workflows
Build and manage job queues and async processing systems for reliable execution
Ensure data integrity across all workflows, preventing orphaned records and inconsistent states
Implement logging, monitoring, and error handling to ensure system reliability
What We Are Building
Launchbelt is a production orchestration system.
It operates at the level of execution, not visibility.
The system:
Breaks assemblies into manufacturable components
Routes work across distributed suppliers based on constraints and capacity
Manages quote submission, comparison, and selection
Tracks production progress across multiple independent facilities
Maintains compliance and traceability across every step
This is not a marketplace or a quoting tool.
This is a system that governs how distributed aerospace manufacturing actually runs.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of backend development experience in production environments
Strong experience building APIs and backend services (Node.js or Python)
Strong relational database experience (PostgreSQL preferred)
Experience designing systems that manage state, workflows, or complex data relationships
Experience building or working with asynchronous systems (job queues, event-driven systems)
Strong debugging, logging, and error handling practices
Ability to translate real-world processes into backend logic
Preferred Qualifications
Experience rebuilding workflow automation into native backend systems
Familiarity with job queues (BullMQ, Celery, or similar)
Experience with webhook-based integrations
Exposure to logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain systems
Experience working in early-stage or high-ownership engineering environments
TypeScript experience
Work Model
Hybrid role based in Austin, Texas
In-office collaboration with focused remote work
Direct interaction with platform engineering and manufacturing operations
Compensation
Compensation includes a combination of salary and equity aligned with early-stage, high-ownership engineering roles.
Final structure will be discussed with candidates based on experience, scope, and timing relative to hiring phase.
