The Executive Director of Global Brigades Canada (the ED) is the executive and management leader of Global Brigades Health and Development (GBHD). The ED oversees GBHD’s administration, programmes, and strategic plan. The ED will liaise with and be spokesperson for the Board of Directors with Global Brigades partner entities. The ED reports directly to and operates under the policies and at the discretion of the GBHD Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Board Governance:
Works with the board to fulfill the mission of the organization
Responsible for leading GBHD in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by GBHD’s Board of Directors.
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Arrange the logistics of in-person Board and Committee Meetings, including, but not limited to, venue, meals, and day-of-the-meeting issues.
Support the Board of Directors in executing new board member onboarding
Planning and operation of the annual budget.
Support the Board of Directors in their decision-making process surrounding corporate policy.
Perform any duties required collectively or individually by Canadian law, Ontario law, the articles of incorporation, or the bylaws of GBHD.
Represent and advocate for the Canadian volunteer base with local and international partners.
Communicate regularly with other members of the Board of Directors to ensure accountability and transparency.
Keep up to date on the general direction of the Organisation and other Global Brigades partner entities and communicate this to the GBHD Board of Directors.
Attend to all legal matters of GBHD as directed by the Board of Directors.
Organisation Mission and Strategy:
Works with board and staff to fulfill the mission through programmes, strategic planning, and community outreach.
Responsible for the implementation of programmes that carry out the GBHD mission.
Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that GBHD can successfully fulfill its mission in the future.
Serve as GBHD’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s members and partner entities.
Maintain presence and communication with organizational members to retain and increase our impact in partner entities and ensure an educated, socially responsible volunteer base.
At the discretion of the Board of GBHD, attend international advisory board meetings and act as the voting member and representative for GBHD
Support board members in their duties
Financial Performance and Viability:
Develops resources sufficient to ensure the organization’s financial health.
Collaborate with the Treasurer on the development of all financial policies and practices necessary for the responsible control of the funds of GBHD and comply with all applicable Bylaws, policies, and legal legislations,
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of GBHD, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and semi-annual financial statements, which accurately reflect the organization’s financial condition.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization’s positive financial position.
Responsible for developing other resources necessary to support GBHD’s mission.
Maintain records for the annual audit process
Organization Operations
Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
Responsible for the effective administration of GBHD operations.
Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Filing and routing materials, correspondence and incoming mail
Liaison for insurance needs of the organization
Coordinate activities with professional advisors, e.g. auditors, legal counsel
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Review and approve contracts for services.
Establishing administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation. Upon resignation from the position, the current ED will assist the board of directors in the onboarding of a new ED
Decision-Making Authority: The Executive Director serves as the executive and administrative officer for GBHD, reporting and coordinating with the Board of GBHD. The authority of the Executive Director to enter into contracts on behalf of GBHD is defined and limited by the policies set forth by the Board of GBHD. This authority and responsibility to implement decisions will be consistent with the articles of incorporation, bylaws, policies and practices of the Organisation and applicable Canadian, and Ontario law.
ONBOARDING, HOURS, WAGE:
Onboarding Start Date - November 18, 2024
Onboarding Period - November 18, 2024 to January 1, 2025 (6hrs/week)
Official Start Date - January 1, 2025 (15hrs/week avg, up to 30 hrs/week)
Hourly Wage: Up to $30/hr
The incoming ED will have an approximate 6 week onboarding period from November 18, 2024 to January 1, 2025, where you will work alongside the current ED. This will require approximately 6 hours/ week. On January 1, 2025, the incoming ED will officially become the new GBHD ED.
After the official start date, the new ED will be required to work on average 15 hrs/week, up to a maximum of 30 hrs/week, based on current projects and workload, at the discretion of the GBHD board.
