About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on, growth-driven Director of Engineering with deep expertise in scaling platforms to enterprise levels. In this role, you will lead and grow our engineering team, which is primarily based in Eastern Europe. You will play a key role in transforming our architecture, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation in a remote-first environment. As a leader, you’ll initially be a player-coach, directly involved in key technical decisions, and gradually transition to a fully managerial role as you scale the team.
As Director of Engineering, you will report directly to the Founder and CEO and collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders across the company to ensure technical alignment with product goals and business strategy.
What You Will Do
- Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed engineering team, providing direction and guidance on scaling architecture to support enterprise clients.
- Build and evolve our platform’s technical architecture, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Foster collaboration across a remote engineering team, improving communication and product understanding within the group.
- Drive the development and implementation of engineering best practices, improving efficiency, code quality, and team productivity.
- Actively manage technical challenges while ensuring the team adheres to timelines and project deliverables.
- Collaborate with the product team to prioritize and execute on technical requirements based on customer needs and strategic priorities.
- Play a hands-on role in decision-making around platform architecture, technical debt, and scaling solutions.
- Lead recruitment efforts to grow the engineering team and bring in top talent.
- Take an entrepreneurial approach, working collaboratively with the rest of the leadership team to deliver innovative and impactful solutions.
- Build trust and ensure strong collaboration with the Product, QA, and Customer Success teams.
- Maintain Entromy’s culture of transparency, collaboration, and high-performance engineering.
What You Will Need
- At least 7 years of leadership experience in a fast-paced SaaS or tech environment.
- Proven experience scaling engineering teams and architecture to enterprise level.
- Hands-on experience with system architecture, platform scaling, and complex technical decision-making.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and develop geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience working with remote teams based in East Europe, and an understanding of cross-cultural dynamics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside product and executive teams.
- Ability to prioritize technical debt, platform scalability, and enterprise requirements while leading an agile team.
- Strong track record of hands-on problem-solving and delivering innovative solutions in fast-growth environments.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through on both large and small projects.
- High integrity, with a long-term mindset focused on building a strong company culture.
- Courage to challenge the status quo when necessary and take calculated risks.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Located between GMT and GMT + 1 Time
- Previous experience at both startup and enterprise levels, bringing an ability to scale rapidly.
- Knowledge of HR tech or organizational health platforms. *(Highly desirable) *
- Experience working with teams in remote-first environments and familiarity with engineering collaboration tools.
