About the job
The Company
BindHQ is a high-growth insurtech startup with a vision to streamline the experience of insurance distribution through smarter software. We’re a leading agency management system providing the core underlying data architecture for MGAs, MGUs and Wholesalers in the specialty insurance sector. It’s a niche sector but a growing one. And we’re a disruptive actor in a landscape of complacent incumbent operators.
Our team is fully distributed with key team members spread across multiple time-zones in the United States and Europe. All our team over-index on resourcefulness and initiative - for any position at BindHQ it’s a prerequisite that you are entirely comfortable being self-sufficient. All team members have a proven track record of being a go-getter, capable of leveraging internal and external resources to help execute on our business strategy.
The Role
The BindHQ platform is based on the Symfony framework. We are close to completing a major refactor of the back end, where we integrated a remote service fully into the main BindHQ platform, so we are positioning ourselves for a major UI refresh.
Our existing UI is based on Bootstrap 4 style-wise. It also has a thin layer of JavaScript, which is mostly bespoke code using jQuery and unit tested using Jasmine. In our UI refresh, we would like to move away from our existing bespoke solution towards Symfony UX, taking advantage of Symfony Turbo, Stimulus and anything else in the Symfony UI ecosystem that can benefit our product.
To do this, we need an experienced UI engineer, preferably with experience in Symfony, to:
- Take ownership of this UI refresh project, point us in the right direction, and lead the charge.
- Select the right tools, patterns and practises - set the standards!
- Be the go-to person on the BindHQ core platform team for UI-related matters.
- Coaching engineers to help them progress in mastering their craft.
- Oversee the testing tools, methodologies and best practises.
- Ensure excellent front end performance and security.
- Be on-point on the front end tech radar, flagging up any tech that could serve our product.
- Contributing to engineering strategy.
- Helping our product be more accessible.
Essential skills and experience
- Modern CSS and JavaScript
- PHP
- Strong communication skills (English language)
Nice to have
- Symfony Framework
- Symfony UX
About the BindHQ product
- Symfony driven over PostgreSQL.
- Primarily monolithic but deployed with a handful of microservices.
- Dockerised and runs on AWS.
- Emphasis on automation testing.
- Continuously integrated, continuously deployed.
Whilst this is mainly a UI focused role, there is nothing stopping you from being involved in deployment, automation, back end, database, performance tuning… We’re looking for someone
smart to help drive us forward, not a drone in a box.
