About Rainy Day Pets
Rainy Day Pets is a growing premium pet care company serving Westchester County and expanding into NYC/Queens/Brooklyn
We provide highly personalized dog walking, daycare, boarding, and related pet care services through a carefully selected network of caregivers. Our goal is to combine the personal relationship clients expect from an individual caregiver with the reliability, standards, and support of a professional company.
We are growing through paid advertising, referrals, organic demand, social media, and local partnerships. We are now looking for someone to take direct ownership of the front end of our client acquisition pipeline.
This is not simply a cold-calling position.
You will work directly with the founder, our performance marketer, operations team, CRM systems, and AI-powered lead engagement tools to ensure prospective clients are consistently contacted, followed up with, qualified, and moved toward booking.
The Role
As our Client Acquisition & Business Development Representative, you will own prospective-client follow-up from initial inquiry through qualification, consultation, meet-and-greet, and booking.
Rainy Day Pets currently generates leads through Meta advertising, referrals, Instagram, existing clients, and organic sources.
An AI-powered sales agent will provide immediate outreach to certain incoming leads. Your responsibility is to provide the human follow-through that automation cannot replace.
You will monitor the pipeline, review AI activity, follow up personally, maintain accurate CRM records, re-engage older opportunities, and help leadership understand what is converting and what is not.
As the active lead pipeline is handled, you will also help generate new opportunities through local outreach, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
Core Responsibilities
Inbound Lead Management & Sales
- Monitor new leads entering HubSpot and other connected lead sources
- Review outreach completed by our AI sales agent
- Personally follow up with prospects by phone, text, and email
- Contact qualified leads promptly during the business week
- Qualify prospects based on location, service needs, timing, pet-care needs, and overall fit
- Explain Rainy Day Pets services and answer common prospective-client questions
- Schedule consultations, meet-and-greets, and appropriate next steps
- Consistently follow up until a prospect books, declines, becomes a future opportunity, or is formally closed out
- Escalate high-value or complex opportunities to the founder or operations team when appropriate
- Help convert qualified inquiries into paying clients
CRM & Pipeline Ownership
You will be responsible for maintaining an accurate picture of the sales pipeline.
This includes:
- Moving leads through the appropriate HubSpot pipeline stages
- Maintaining accurate lead status, notes, next-action dates, and follow-up reminders
- Ensuring active leads do not fall through the cracks
- Tracking leads that cannot currently be fulfilled because of caregiver availability
- Recording why opportunities are lost or delayed
- Maintaining clean and reliable sales data for management
Every assigned lead should ultimately have a clear status such as:
- New Lead
- AI Contact Attempted
- Human Follow-Up Required
- Contacted
- Qualified
- Consultation / Meet & Greet Scheduled
- Awaiting Caregiver Match
- Booked / Won
- Future Follow-Up
- Unable to Fulfill
- Unresponsive
- Not Qualified
- Lost
AI + Human Sales Coordination
Rainy Day Pets is implementing AI-assisted lead outreach to improve response speed.
The AI is not replacing this role.
Your job is to make sure automation turns into actual human conversations and bookings.
You will:
- Monitor AI outreach activity
- Identify prospects requiring human follow-up
- Follow up when automated calls or messages go unanswered
- Correct or update CRM statuses when necessary
- Make sure automation does not replace relationship-building
- Flag issues with AI outreach or lead routing
- Work with leadership to improve the overall lead follow-up process
Marketing Feedback & Conversion Tracking
Our performance marketer generates leads through paid advertising, including Meta campaigns.
Your responsibility is to make sure we know what ultimately happens to those leads.
You will:
- Maintain accurate conversion and disposition information
- Update Meta lead outcomes when required
- Track which leads convert, do not convert, or require future follow-up
- Record reasons leads are lost
- Identify leads lost because of geography or caregiver availability
- Work with our performance marketer to provide accurate conversion feedback
- Help leadership understand which campaigns, areas, services, and lead sources produce the strongest opportunities
The goal is to create a complete feedback loop:
Marketing → Lead → AI Outreach → Human Follow-Up → Qualification → Booking → Revenue
Client Reactivation
Once active inbound leads are under control, you will also help generate additional revenue from our existing database.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing previous and inactive clients
- Identifying clients who have not booked recently
- Reaching out regarding upcoming travel, daycare, boarding, walks, or recurring service needs
- Re-engaging older leads that previously expressed interest
- Maintaining future follow-up dates inside the CRM
- Identifying opportunities for repeat and recurring business
Business Development & Outbound Growth
As capacity allows, you will also help Rainy Day Pets develop new client acquisition channels.
This may include:
- Local Facebook groups
- Neighborhood forums and community groups
- Luxury apartment communities
- Leasing and property managers
- Veterinary practices
- Groomers
- Dog trainers
- Pet boutiques and pet-related businesses
- Residential communities
- Local events
- Referral partnerships
- Other grassroots business development opportunities
This position may eventually include local in-person relationship building throughout Westchester and NYC.
Priority of Work
Your priorities should generally follow this order:
- New inbound leads
- Active follow-up opportunities
- Older leads and client reactivation
- Business development and outbound prospecting Warm opportunities should never sit untouched while time is being spent prospecting for colder business.
Schedule
This is initially an approximately 12–15 hour per week contract position.
The schedule offers flexibility, but regular weekday availability is important because new client inquiries require timely follow-up.
This position is not designed to be completed during one or two large work blocks each week.
We are looking for someone who can monitor and work the pipeline consistently throughout the business week.
Hours and responsibilities may increase as the company and sales pipeline grow.
Performance Expectations
This is a performance-driven role.
Success will be evaluated based on results, follow-through, and pipeline management rather than simply hours logged.
Key performance indicators may include:
- 100% of assigned new leads reviewed and actioned
- Same-business-day human follow-up when appropriate
- Consistent multi-touch follow-up on active prospects
- 95%+ of active opportunities carrying an accurate CRM status and next action
- Qualified conversations generated
- Consultations and meet-and-greets scheduled
- Lead-to-client conversion rate
- Dormant clients successfully reactivated
- Personally sourced opportunities
- Partnership opportunities developed
- Collected revenue attributable to closed business
- Accurate reasons documented for lost or unfulfilled opportunities
Who We're Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you are:
- Highly organized
- Persistent and comfortable following up
- Confident speaking with prospective clients by phone
- Warm, personable, and professional
- Comfortable with sales without being overly aggressive
- Able to work independently
- Strong with CRM systems and follow-up discipline
- Comfortable working alongside AI and automation tools
- Capable of managing multiple conversations and follow-up dates
- Motivated by performance-based compensation
- Entrepreneurial and resourceful
- Comfortable working directly with a founder
- Able to recognize opportunities without waiting to be told every next step
- Excited about helping build an early-stage company
Previous experience in sales, business development, customer success, hospitality, real estate, pet care, local services, or relationship-based selling is helpful.
Experience with HubSpot is a plus.
Compensation
Base Retainer: $750–$1,000 per month, depending on experience, availability, and expected weekly commitment, plus uncapped performance-based commission.
Because Rainy Day Pets offers services ranging from individual dog walks to recurring care and multi-day boarding, incentive compensation is structured around client value and successful acquisition, rather than one flat commission percentage.
Potential incentives may include:
- $10–$30 bonus for smaller one-time bookings, depending on booking value
- $40–$50 bonus for larger one-time bookings
- $50–$75 bonus for converting a Rainy Day Pets-provided lead into an active recurring client
- $75–$125 bonus for personally sourcing and converting a recurring client
- Bonuses for successfully reactivating dormant clients
- Bonuses for partnerships that generate paying clients
- Additional monthly performance bonuses for exceeding client-acquisition or revenue targets
A recurring client will generally be considered successfully activated after completing an agreed number of services or reaching a minimum amount of collected revenue.
Personally sourced business and revenue-producing partnerships receive higher incentives than company-provided inbound opportunities.
Additional performance bonuses may be offered for major partnership wins, exceptional client acquisition performance, or significant attributable revenue growth.
All commissions and bonuses are paid on completed and collected business rather than inquiries or appointments alone.
Final attribution rules, activation thresholds, payment timing, and performance milestones will be documented before the engagement begins.
Strong performers may have the opportunity to earn substantially more through performance incentives, expanded hours, increased base compensation, and greater responsibility across sales, partnerships, and growth.
Growth Opportunity
Rainy Day Pets is still early in its growth.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build the client acquisition system, not simply work through a call list.
Someone who performs exceptionally in this role could grow into a larger position across:
- Sales
- Business Development
- Partnerships
- Growth
- Client Acquisition Leadership as Rainy Day Pets expands across New York.
To Apply
Please answer the following questions with your application:
A new Meta lead submitted an inquiry yesterday. Our AI system called and texted them, but they did not respond. Walk us through exactly what you would do next.
You have finished following up with every active inbound lead for the day. What would you work on next?
You receive 30 older leads that have not been contacted in several months. How would you organize and approach them?
Tell us about a time you had to follow up persistently with a potential customer without becoming pushy.
It is Monday morning. You have new Meta leads, several AI follow-ups that need human attention, dormant past clients, and a list of local veterinary practices and apartment communities. How would you prioritize your first 15 hours of the week?
This is a hybrid/flexible role. Most lead-management and sales activity can be performed remotely, but candidates should be located within reasonable travel distance of New York City and Westchester County for occasional in-person business development, partnership meetings, and community outreach.
Because this role owns an active sales pipeline, we expect regular weekday availability rather than concentrating all weekly hours into one or two days.
