ABOUT THRESH
Thresh is a modern digital consulting firm built for the AI era where strategy, execution, and craft come together to deliver real outcomes with speed. Our specialty is helping organizations design, build, and scale AI-native digital products that create exceptional customer experiences and drive measurable value. We equip clients to separate signal from noise, moving from AI experimentation to operational adoption.
At Thresh, how we show up in the market is an extension of the craft we bring to client work. Most of Thresh are builders; this role is the communicator who gives that work a voice and connects it to the emotional core of why it matters.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Thresh is hiring a UX Writer to set the direction for how the AI products we build for clients talk to people. You won't script what the assistant says. A model does that. You'll write the guidance it works from: how it should sound, what it should prioritize at each step of a customer's path to purchase, and how the brand's messaging comes through in a live conversation. Our designers own the screens and components. You own the voice and the direction behind them.
This role fits a copywriter or content writer who has moved into digital and wants to go further: from writing the line to writing the rules a model uses to write thousands of them. You'll work alongside our designers, product leads, and engineers, and you'll check your direction against how real customers talk.
The ideal path is contract-to-hire.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Define voice, tone, and messaging guidelines that keep an AI assistant consistent and on-brand across every conversation
- Map the key moments in a customer's path (browsing, comparing, checking availability, deciding) and set the direction for how the assistant should handle each one
- Translate brand messaging and offer priorities into guidance the assistant can follow in an open-ended conversation
- Set direction for the hard moments: confusion, off-topic requests, frustration, and when to bring in a human
- Run quality testing on assistant responses before and after launch, scoring them against the voice, messaging, and accuracy standards you set
- Review real conversations and transcripts, find where the assistant drifts from the brand or the customer's intent, and tighten the guidance
- Help define what "good" looks like so the team can measure whether the assistant is doing its job
- Work with engineers and product leads to turn your direction into working behavior
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
- Up to four years of professional writing, ideally with some digital or product work
- Work samples showing how you set direction, not just write copy: voice and tone guides, messaging frameworks, journey or content maps, or bot guidelines. We weigh your samples more heavily than your degree.
- Experience turning brand messaging into rules other people (or systems) can follow
- An ear for how people actually phrase things, as opposed to how we wish they would
- A taste for iteration. Your first draft won't survive contact with real customers, and that's the job
Nice to have
- Hands-on time with LLMs, at work or on your own: writing prompts, testing outputs, finding where they break. Bonus if a sample shows guidance you wrote, what the model did with it, and what you changed.
- Experience reviewing or scoring content at volume (QA, editorial review, or content audits)
- Lifecycle, CRM, or email flow writing (anything with triggers and branching)
- Help center, support content, or chat transcript work
- Experience A/B testing your own copy
- Conversation tools like Voiceflow or Botpress, or voice interfaces
WHY THRESH
- Competitive compensation with performance bonus upside (full-time), or a competitive rate and clear scope (contract)
- Healthcare benefits and 401(k) with company matching (full-time)
- You'll sit with the engineers who ship your work and watch your conversations run against real customer traffic
- A team that uses this technology every day, which is how we know what it's bad at
