About the job
Timbre is an audio and video editing app for Android, live on Google Play and used by real users around the world. People use Timbre to cut, join, convert, compress and transform media on their phones, with heavier AI-powered features running on our backend.
We’re looking for an Android Developer Intern to work directly on the live app alongside the developer who owns it. You’ll start with well-scoped tasks and gradually take on larger pieces as you get comfortable with the codebase.
This is hands-on work on a real product, your changes will be reviewed, shipped and used by real users rather than staying in a prototype.
What you’ll work on:
• Reproduce and fix real bugs, then verify fixes on an Android device
• Build small features and UI improvements across the editing screens
• Work on automated end-to-end test flows
• Help with localisation and product polish across our supported languages
• Test behaviour across Android versions and manufacturers and document findings
• Grow into larger feature work as the internship progresses
Our stack includes Kotlin, Coroutines, XML/ViewBinding, Material Components, MVVM, Retrofit, WorkManager, Room, FFmpegKit, Media3/ExoPlayer, Firebase and Gradle Kotlin DSL.
What we’re looking for:
• An app on the Google Play Store that you’ve worked on — it can be something you published yourself, or an app from an internship or client project. Please include the link
• Working knowledge of Kotlin
• Understanding of Android fundamentals including activities, fragments, XML layouts, RecyclerView and lifecycle
• Basic Git knowledge, including branches, commits and pull requests
• An Android device you can develop and test on
• Clear written English and a willingness to debug patiently
Experience with Retrofit, media on Android, Room, WorkManager, coroutines or other Jetpack libraries is a plus.
A computer science degree, Jetpack Compose and prior professional experience are required.
For a strong intern, we would consider a full-time role at the end of the internship if an opening is available.
