About the job
You'll own systems end to end — from architecture decision through production deployment through the bug report that comes in from a store manager at 7am. This is not a ticket queue. You'll be handed a problem and the latitude to decide how to solve it, then held to the timeline you set.
Concretely, you will:
- Build clean, concise, well-factored services from the ground up — not bolt onto legacy scaffolding
- Own and extend our integration layer: POS vendors, marketplace APIs, payment and shipping providers, and internal services
- Design and maintain browser automation that holds up against sites that change without notice, including retry logic, failure detection, and graceful degradation
- Make architecture calls (data modeling, service boundaries, queueing, caching, deployment topology) and write down the reasoning behind them
- Use AI tooling aggressively for debugging, code review, and test generation — we expect this to be a core part of how you work, not an occasional assist
- Travel to customer sites several times a year to watch the product get used, gather feedback in person, and bring fixes back the same week
- Ship on tight, self-set deadlines and communicate early when one is at risk
- What we're looking for
Required
- A portfolio of production applications you personally built and shipped — things real users depended on, not coursework or tutorials
- Strong full-stack fundamentals: a modern backend language (we use Python and JavaScript/TypeScript), a modern frontend framework, and comfortable schema design in both SQL and document stores
- Hands-on experience integrating third-party APIs, including handling auth flows, rate limits, pagination, webhooks, and undocumented behavior
- Practical experience with browser automation (Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium, or similar) and a realistic sense of where it breaks
- Fluency with AI coding tools for debugging and review, and good judgment about where their output needs verification
- Cloud deployment experience (we run on GCP: GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run) and comfort with containers and CI/CD
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, typically 1–2 days at a time
Nice to have
- Experience in retail, logistics, marketplace, or inventory software
- Computer vision or LLM application work, especially around image-based classification or pricing
- Hardware-adjacent work — smart glasses, scanners, label printers, conveyor systems
- Direct experience talking to non-technical users about software they use all day
Who this suits
Early-career engineers are strongly encouraged to apply. What we care about is demonstrated shipping ability and independent judgment — where you got them matters much less than whether you have them. If you've been building and deploying real applications for a couple of years, whether through jobs, contract work, open source, or your own products, you're the profile we want.
How we'll evaluate you
Intro call — your background, what you've shipped, what you want to own
Portfolio walkthrough — pick a project you built and take us through the architecture decisions and what you'd change
Paid take-home — a scoped, realistic integration problem, roughly one day of work
Team conversation — working session with the engineering and customer success team
