About the job
Scalero is a full-service CRM and Lifecycle Marketing consultancy. We work with fast-growing businesses to develop and execute marketing strategies; we design and code emails; and we build our own email marketing tools. We were founded in 2019 and have scaled to a team of 30+ fantastic individuals. We’re excited to be doing the best work of our careers and we’re committed to promoting learning and diversity in everything we do.
We are seeking a specialized Marketing Automation Developer focused on the intersection of front-end code and data integration. In this role, you will be engineering highly dynamic, data-driven HTML email templates inside our ESP platforms.
You will take raw data feeds, relational tables, and API payloads, and use advanced scripting languages to seamlessly inject that data into bulletproof HTML. If you love the technical challenge of parsing complex JSON, looping through data arrays, and writing clean conditional logic to power 1:1 personalized content, this role is tailored for you.
Responsibilities
- Dynamic Content Integration: Write advanced template logic utilizing scripting languages like AMPscript, Liquid, Jinja, or Handlebars to map complex data payloads directly into HTML emails.
- Template Engineering: Build, maintain, and optimize responsive, bulletproof HTML/CSS email templates that render flawlessly across all major email clients, devices, and dark mode environments.
- Data-to-Template Mapping: Parse, manipulate, and display complex data structures (JSON/XML) and event-triggered data feeds within the ESP to populate real-time content blocks.
- Conditional Display Logic: Write clean conditional statements, loops, and data lookup queries strictly for content rendering (e.g., displaying order tables, localized pricing, or personalized product recommendations based on incoming data).
- QA & Rendering Testing: Conduct rigorous cross-client testing using tools like Litmus or Email on Acid to troubleshoot rendering bugs and syntax errors before templates go live.
- Technical Collaboration: Partner closely with Data Engineers (who handle the data architecture) and Marketing Operations (who handle audience segmentation) to ensure templates perfectly ingest backend data.
- ESP Data Integration & Ingestion: Support our Data Engineer team on configuring, mapping, and maintaining incoming data streams, webhooks, and REST API payloads directly within the ESP environment to ensure real-time data is correctly ingested and structured for messaging.
- Be fast and responsive to clients and teammates’ requests with a positive attitude.
- Join client calls to gather direct feedback, understand their needs, and explain project updates or technical concepts in simple terms.
- Clearly articulate technical and non-technical details to clients and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and mutual understanding.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience specialized in advanced HTML email development and ESP scripting.
- Scripting Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in at least two of the following ESP scripting languages: AMPscript (Salesforce Marketing Cloud), Liquid (Braze/Customer.io), Jinja (Bloomreach/SimonAI), or Handlebars (Iterable).
- Front-End Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of HTML and CSS tailored specifically for email constraints (nested tables, inline styles, Outlook quirks).
- Data Literacy: Strong proficiency in reading and working with JSON payloads, REST API data structures, and hierarchical data models.
- Platform Familiarity: Proven track record of developing complex templates inside enterprise-grade ESPs (e.g., Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, or Klaviyo).
- Solid communication skills in English over Slack, Notion, and email with the US team and clients. Speaking in Spanish with the rest of the team in Mexico is preferred.
Bonus Skills
- Experience integrating AI or automation tools into email development workflows (e.g., templating, content generation, or workflow orchestration for recurring campaigns).
Compensation and benefits
- Salary range: $2,200 - $2,700 USD/month (based on experience)
- Annual bonus equivalent to 1 month of salary
- Health insurance (major and minor medical expenses)
- Company laptop provided
- Wework access
