About the job
Background of Pepper
Founded by a team out of Uber Eats, we help independent food distributors modernize how they sell, order, and operate, so they can out-execute giants like Sysco and US Foods. We now power over 500 distributors representing $30 billion in annual volume, and we recently raised a $50M Series C led by Lead Edge Capital (with ICONIQ, Index Ventures, and Greylock). We're tackling a $650B industry ripe for modernization, and we have the timing, the team, and the capital to transform it.
Role
- As an Implementation Manager, you'll own the onboarding of new distributors from signature through launch. Your primary role is getting customers live quickly.
- Own the technical work: Use Claude and AI tools to make your own code changes, troubleshoot ERP integrations, and unblock issues directly, with engineering support available for the harder problems.
- Own the customer relationship: Serve as the main point of contact throughout onboarding, running regular check-ins and managing technical requirements. Build relationships with key advocates on the customer side (ownership, management, IT, sales reps).
Must Haves
- 2+ years in a results-focused, customer-facing environment (e.g., early-stage startup, high-growth tech company).
- Semi-technical background: you can read and reason about code, understand how integrations work, and have used AI tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) to make real code changes. You don't need a CS degree, but you can't be afraid of the technical side.
- Competitive and motivated, with a track record of completing projects quickly and beating deadlines.
- Bias to action and enthusiasm for finding creative solutions to difficult problems.
- Excellent project management and written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset plus a willingness to roll up your sleeves and dig into the tactical alongside the strategic.
Why join Pepper
- You'll work on a real problem. Independent food distributors are a vital part of local economies. Like going out to eat? The restaurants you love depend on these distributors, and you'll help them get their food more easily by building better technology for the distributors who supply them.
- You'll shape how the work gets done. You'll own how you run implementations and where to push the process forward.
- You'll get unusually broad exposure. You'll touch real code, ERP integrations, customer relationships, and internal tooling. Few roles let you operate across the technical and customer-facing sides this fully, and you'll come out far more capable on both.
- Your work goes live and gets used. Every distributor you launch starts running their business on what you built. Short feedback loops, visible results, nothing that disappears into a backlog.
