About Annex
We’re solving a critical problem for the American homeowner - the exploding cost of homeowners insurance - specifically, for consumers in natural catastrophe heavy areas. From south Texas to woodland California to the Jersey shore, consumers are being asked to pay thousands more in insurance premiums every year. Annex acts as a wholesaler equipping our agent partners with better options for these insureds.
This is a great role for: An early to mid-career insurance underwriter who can help us implement residential property underwriting best practices while managing a small team. This is a hybrid practitioner / management role at a rapidly-growing startup offering the chance to implement and own a function.
Goals
- Manage and improve property inspection review process
- Make final underwriting decisions on submissions and reviewed inspections of bound homeowners policies
- Underwrite high net worth homeowners submissions for build quality and insured liability exposure
- Manage and mentor associate underwriters; handle underwriting escalations from support staff, agents and consumers
- Work with Annex product team to develop compliant consumer messaging; surface and articulate ways to improve efficiency of day to day underwriting operations
- Further develop and document written Annex underwriting procedures
Required skills and experiences
- Deep understanding of residential insurance products and their appropriate use
- Strong knowledge of residential property underwriting and home construction
- Direct experience reviewing individual property risks
- Specific experience underwriting high net worth, and either wildfire or hurricane-exposed homeowners risks
- Robust knowledge of homeowners and residential flood insurance forms, common coverages and exclusions
- Strong analytical skills, comfort with excel and more sophisticated BI tools
“Nice to have’s”
- Experience working with E&S forms and programs
- Familiarity with Lloyd’s, the California homeowners market and / or wind market
- A current surplus lines license
- Experience working with Zendesk
