About the job

Job Title: Agency Development Manager

Location: Austin, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Base salary plus variable compensation tied to agency engagement and production outcomes

About Us
Annex is a digital wholesaler and managing general agent making specialty property insurance faster and simpler for retail insurance agencies. We combine insurance expertise with technology-native operations to help agents place business that can be difficult to serve through the standard market.
We’re a small, fast-growing company where people have meaningful ownership over how we operate and grow. You’ll work alongside a resourceful team that values clarity, accountability, and trust.

About the Role
We’re hiring an Agency Development Manager to help independent insurance agents successfully adopt and grow with Annex. This is a proactive, sales-oriented role focused on moving agents from initial onboarding to their first quote, first policy, and consistent production.

You’ll manage an assigned portfolio of agency relationships and work directly with agents to help them understand when and how to use Annex. You’ll also reengage agencies whose activity has slowed, introduce new products and capabilities, and surface the feedback and market intelligence that help us improve. You’re making something agents need to do already much easier, so they can spend more of their time winning business and serving customers.

This is an individual-contributor role for someone who enjoys building relationships but is equally comfortable being measured by concrete sales and engagement outcomes. Direct experience working inside an insurance agency is strongly preferred—you should understand how agents sell, how they evaluate carrier partners, and what gets in the way of placing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and build engagement within an assigned portfolio of retail insurance agencies
  • Drive agency activation, quoting, new business production, product adoption, and reengagement
  • Execute targeted agency-development initiatives across different stages of the agent lifecycle
  • Conduct consistent outbound outreach and follow-up across phone, email, and virtual meetings
  • Educate agents on Annex’s products, underwriting appetite, and technology
  • Lead virtual trainings and occasional in-person meetings for agencies and their teams
  • Track agency activity, opportunities, and follow-up in our CRM
  • Identify sales blockers, competitive dynamics, and market needs
  • Represent the voice of the agent and collaborate with underwriting, operations, product, and marketing to improve the agency experience
  • Travel occasionally for agency visits, regional events, and industry conferences

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in personal lines insurance, ideally working within an independent agency
  • Experience selling or placing homeowners insurance; familiarity with flood insurance is a plus
  • A proactive, commercially-minded approach and comfort initiating conversations with new people every day
  • Ability to manage a large number of relationships and maintain consistent follow-through
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain insurance products clearly and practically
  • Comfort working toward measurable activity, engagement, and production goals
  • Organization and discipline in using CRM and sales tools
  • Resourcefulness and comfort operating in a growing company where processes continue to evolve
  • Based in Austin, Texas. The role will begin primarily remote, with regular in-person collaboration and an expectation of working from an Austin office as the local team grows

Nice to Have

  • Experience placing E&S or non-admitted insurance
  • Experience working for a carrier, MGA, wholesaler, or insurtech that distributes through independent agents
  • Familiarity with comparative raters, agency management systems, and other tools used by independent insurance agencies
  • An active property and casualty insurance license
