Senior Product Designer - AI Systems

• Help design the OS and application layer for a new class of computer
• Rethink how traditional computer interfaces work in the age of local AI

We’re inviting an experienced, generalist interface designer to join our core team at Mother, building our first computer, the Mother I. We are looking for a self-starter who is a highly motivated and autonomous operator to join us in our Mountain View office.

Too much of today’s AI compute is concentrated in the hands of a few large companies. We believe in local and open-source AI—your AI should truly be your own.

Mother I is an AI supercomputer designed to run a wide range of open-source models locally. At its core is a software stack that makes it remarkably easy to run models and perform powerful tasks—directly on your own machine.

What you’ll do in this role

• Contribute to the overall design and product direction of the software that ships with Mother I, ranging from the operating system to the initial core applications
• Design and ship high-quality products, from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and production visuals
• Create interfaces for running models, orchestrating agents, managing files, using tools, and understanding what the system is doing
• Work closely with engineers, industrial designers, and the CEO to ship beautiful products
• Contribute to and evolve our design system and help establish our design culture

What we’re looking for

• Strong interface design craft across layout, typography, hierarchy, motion, and interaction details
• Excellent product judgment and the ability to simplify complex workflows without making them feel dumbed down
• Experience designing and shipping real software, not just decks or concepts
• Comfort working from ambiguity, moving quickly, and making decisions with incomplete information
• Strong taste, high ownership, and a clear point of view

• Interest and ability to pick up new technologies quickly
• Curiosity in evolving AI platforms, operating systems, distributed systems, hardware, networking, and running models locally
• Experience with AI products, creative tools, developer tools, productivity software, desktop apps, or hardware-adjacent products
• Ability to prototype in code or motion tools
