The Role
Director of Credit Card Operations
The Director of Credit Card Operations will play a critical role in overseeing our day-to-day operations and ensuring operational alignment with our business strategy. Reporting to the GM of Card and Rewards, the Director of Credit Card Operations will be responsible for leading the execution of our strategy and oversee legal, compliance, procedure, support, and financial operations for the consumer credit card business. This position will require a strategic leader with experience scaling a hyper growth startup.
How you’ll make an impact
Strategic Leadership and Execution
- Collaborate with the GM and executive team to refine and execute the company’s long-term strategic vision.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between business objectives and operational strategies.
- Establish KPIs and OKRs for operational excellence and scalability, monitor progress, and adjust strategies as necessary.
Financial Operations
- Oversee all core operations, including card and mortgage product lines, ensuring efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
- Assist with portfolio management strategies to drive desired behavioral outcomes such as reducing fraud, increasing product engagement, repayment, etc.
- Help us stand up and scale new financial products.
- Drive operational processes for our card and mortgage business to ensure compliance, quality, and scalability.
Card Operations
- Oversee all aspects of credit card operations, including card production, card delivery, statement management, dispute resolution, remedying POS rejections and fraud claims
- Evaluate and enhance card operations, developing and documenting procedures to improve efficiency and resolution processes
- Serve as a liaison between Mesa and third-party vendors, overseeing vendor assurance reviews, contract management, and regulatory compliance
- Plan and align card operations with strategic business goals, using critical thinking to address bottlenecks, ensure smooth operations, and lead / train the team effectively
People Operations
- Help us attract, retain, and engage world class talent.
- Create a high performing culture based on our defined values.
- Help us scale our team from 20 to 2000+ over the next few years.
Legal and Compliance
- Oversee the legal and compliance teams, ensuring all operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Stay abreast of evolving regulatory changes affecting mortgage and credit card operations, proactively adapting processes as needed.
- Manage internal and external resources to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
Requirements
- Proven experience (8-10+ years) in operations, with a leadership role at a high-growth startup or fast-paced organization.
- Experience overseeing mortgage and card financial operations.
- Strong understanding of card and payment regulations, such as Reg E and Reg Z
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a high-performing team.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data to inform marketing strategies and decisions.
