About Myna Mahila Foundation
Myna Mahila is an internationally renowned, award-winning, and technology-driven women’s
empowerment NGO and its work has been supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Queen's
Commonwealth Trust, ONGC, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), ITC Limited, Rashtriya
Chemical and Fertilizer Ltd. (RCF), Reliance Foundation, Stanford University, and MIT Solve, among
others. Myna Mahila Foundation works to improve women’s agency, shifts social norms, and empowers women to meet their full potential.
It focuses on women in urban slums and has three verticals:
(1) Myna Health focuses on improving women’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes with a reach of 1.5 million women. Teach Menses India (TMI) is its flagship program which provides SRH education, products and services to women and girls through physical programming and digital interventions through the TMI mobile application.
(2) Myna Employ helps provide job opportunities to women through digital work. Most notably, it houses an initiative called Rani Work (digital work for women over smartphones).
(3) Myna Research gathers primary data on women’s agency, employment and health outcomes in urban slums, and runs evaluations, including randomized control trials, to highlight women’s persistent problems and demonstrate solutions for scale. Together, the verticals can help shift mindsets that are holding women back, fostering an environment where women are inspired to speak up like the chatty “Myna” bird.
