About the job

About Bright Harbor:

Bright Harbor is revolutionizing the disaster recovery process for families and small businesses. By combining expert concierge support with innovative digital tools, we streamline the path to recovery. Our mission is to make disaster recovery faster, simpler, and more affordable, empowering individuals and communities to rebuild with confidence and ease.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced UX Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design and develop our core product, working closely with the CEO and a small cross-functional team to execute our mission and adapt based on early feedback. You will create the user experience while leveraging Bright Harbor’s existing branding and visual guidelines, with the freedom to refine and enhance those visuals.

As the first full-time member of the product team, you will play a key role in building a culture of excellence and productivity while managing external design and engineering resources. As we advance beyond the MVP stage, you’ll be instrumental in reimagining the platform, product, and features.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Iteration: Design and implement features that improve the disaster recovery experience. You’ll closely monitor how clients interact with our platform, drive the product roadmap, and iterate on our MVP while designing and building new features.

  • UX/UI Design: Create user flows, wireframes, and prototypes to map out intuitive user experiences that align with our product goals.

  • Front-End Development: Implement designs into our responsive web application, ensuring seamless functionality and an exceptional user experience. Continuously iterate and maintain the platform, upholding high standards for performance, scalability, and reliability.

  • Collaboration with Engineering Team: Partner with our internal and external engineering resources to ensure smooth product development and technical execution.

  • Engineering Team Growth: As the first full time product team member, you will help grow and develop the product and engineering team. You will help with recruiting new talent and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide architectural and design guidance, particularly in front-end development and user experience, while supporting backend needs.

Qualifications:

  • UX/UI Design Experience: Strong experience in UX/UI design using tools like Figma and Photoshop.

  • Front-End Engineering Expertise: Proven expertise in front-end technologies, including React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Full Stack Understanding: Familiarity with back-end technologies, with the ability to collaborate closely with back-end engineers to create a cohesive user experience.

  • Startup Experience: Experience in startup environments. You thrive in fast-paced, unstructured environments and are comfortable adapting to change.

  • AI Integration: Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, MidJourney) to enhance team performance and productivity.

  • AI Design Experience: Experience or strong interest in designing UI/UX for AI-integrated applications.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: While direct management experience isn’t required, you should be seen as a leader among your peers, with the ability to recruit talent and drive team culture. You’re comfortable giving candid feedback and collaborating with external teams to deliver results.

  • Excellent Communication: You excel at translating complex technical concepts into clear, understandable language for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are known for being candid, positive, and constructive in your communication.

  • Building for Scale: Experience designing scalable solutions used by large numbers of users.

  • Passion for Impact: You care deeply about climate change and want to help victims of natural disasters rebuild their lives.

Why Join Bright Harbor?

  • Climate Focused: Be part of a company working to address one of the most critical issues of our time—climate change.

  • Impactful Work: Join a mission-driven team that’s making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

  • Performance Culture: Be part of a world-class team with a strong culture that values performance, integrity, and creativity.

  • Growth Opportunities: Play a key role in the company’s growth, with ample opportunities for career advancement.

Long-Term Vision:

Our goal is to become the leading platform and trusted brand for disaster recovery. We aim to provide not only comprehensive post-disaster support but also proactive tools that help individuals and businesses prepare for future events.

Work Location:

This position is based in Austin, Texas, with a hybrid work model that enables flexibility between remote work and in-office collaboration, depending on project needs and team schedules.
