About the job
An early-stage neuromodulation startup seeks a CEO/ co-founder to take our startup to a new level. We seek a sharp, driven, experienced, and entrepreneurial individual with a proven track record of building medical device companies. The immediate goals include raising a seed round and non-dilutive funding, building the team, and bringing the first product to the market.
Opportunity:
NeuroLight developed a breakthrough proprietary technology enabling brain states to be “transplanted” (i.e., replicated) from donors to recipients. This involves replicating brainwaves—brain states’s neural correlates. Just as music can be recorded in a live concert and then played back in another place at another time, brainwaves ("music" of the brain) can be recorded in one subject’s brain and then replayed in another. Brainwaves can be recorded using, for example, electroencephalography (EEG) and “played back” in another person’s brain via neuromodulation. This allows recording of a desired brain state in a “donor” who is adept at achieving this brain state (e.g., states of flow, hyper-focus, sleep, relaxation, etc.) and inducing the desired brain state in a recipient by entraining the recipient’s brain with the brainwaves of the “donor.” Neuromodulation is accomplished by stimulating the recipient’s brain with sensory stimuli like light and sound. The first pilot study was completed (and results published). NeuroLight, Inc. was awarded Phase I NSF/SBIR Grant, which it successfully completed. This revolutionary technology is protected by several issued U.S. patents and multiple patent applications filed in the U.S. and other countries. Our technology addresses several multi-billion-dollar markets, including medical, consumer, education, sports, entertainment, and military. Our first application is the treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders. We developed a smart sleeping mask (“NeuroMask”) that has embedded electronics, LEDs, and earphones to stimulate the brain of the user trying to fall asleep with the waveforms derived from EEG of sleeping subjects. The beta prototype is ready for a proof-of-concept study. Our core team includes the founder (Ph.D.), a CTO (Ph.D.), and a neuroscientist (Ph.D.). More information is available on the website www.NeuroLight.com.
The successful candidate will be an experienced entrepreneur with a successful track record of building companies in the medical device space from an early stage through an exit.
*Compensation: *
This is an entrepreneurial/ partnership opportunity where the compensation is primarily based on equity participation. In the beginning, there will be no salary, only stock options. However, the CEO will start receive a salary upon successfully raising the seed round or obtaining a grant. The CEO will immediately raise funds to support the next stage of our business, ideally from connections they already have to potential VCs, angel investors, and partners, or possibly bring in funds themselves and receive upfront equity.
