Sisu Global Health careers
Worldwide, healthcare facilities suffer from a shortage of over 40 million units of donor blood each year. With current medical device design focused on the developed world, doctors in Sub-Saharan Africa are forced to create their own solutions, particularly for internal hemorrhages. The current standard of care for salvaging blood (autotransfusion) consists of a kitchen soup ladle and gauze to salvage and filter blood. Doctors recognize the need for an alternative to the soup ladle, and government staff discourage the use of this procedure; however there is no other existing option. Sisu has created a safer, more efficient alternative: the Hemafuse. The Hemafuse is a manual device that functions much like a large syringe to pull blood through a filter and to transport it straight to a blood bag in a closed system. This device can be a replacement to donor blood for traffic accidents with ruptured spleen or liver, blunt trauma, and pregnancy complications.
