Jobs at Myna Mahila Foundation
Myna is a social enterprise that employs women in slums to produce high quality sanitary pads that are sold at an affordable rate. Our bottom line is not just profits, but the impact we bring to our women's lives. What problems are we solving? The menstrual cycle is an essential component of reproduction. Women use various wadded materials to absorb the blood and this has to be changed before it promotes bacterial growth which can lead to infection. In other words, women must use clean, safe material, and they must change it often. At times, however, despite their willingness to adopt best hygienic practices, women are not able to do so due to the absence of facilities such as clean water, bathrooms and disposal mechanisms. Traditionally, women are discouraged from speaking openly about their bodies and bodily functions, especially those related to their reproductive organs. Consequently, they are often under-informed or misinformed on issues related to the menstrual cycle. How is Myna solving the problem? Myna provides access to affordable products through it's own manufacturing unit, women are now able to get sanitary pads at their doorstep at a price below market price. We conduct awareness sessions to help women open up about the stigma and taboo that they are subjected to during their menstrual cycles, helping them to think and live openly without being tied down to restrictive traditions. As you decide to work with Myna, you will be working with an excellent team, that is set out to solve one of the pressing challenges that India faces. Along with providing access and awareness about menstrual hygiene, menstrual waste disposal is a mammoth task that Myna has undertaken. Here you will have the opportunity to see and experience first hand, the challenges that plague the community members and work on it with one of the brightest minds. Your work will not just be about financial rewards, but about the impact you create for underprivileged communities.
