Founding Engineer, Mobile & AI

Better is seeking a full-time Founding Engineer, Mobile & AI to help us build Byside, a 24/7 AI assistant ready to help users with anything from maintaining healthy habits to performing online research. As the main engineer working on Byside, your primary focus will be releasing its iOS and Android apps and developing its agentic voice architecture. Building off of our prototype React Native application, you’ll explore how Byside can be maximally helpful and cost efficient to run. You’ll research and compare approaches, implement improvements, and develop evaluations to understand what works.

We’re interested in candidates with both full-stack mobile development and applied AI experience. We’ll also accept applications for candidates with experience in one of these areas and an interest and capability in quickly learning new areas. Prior experience with any of the following will be valuable for this role: cross-platform (e.g. React Native) or native mobile development, voice interfaces, ambient AI, multimodal AI, and agent workflows and memory.
