Job Description – Technical Lead (Full Stack)
Company: OctavoLab
Location: Hyderabad, India
Employment: Full-time, dedicated
Experience: 6–9 years, including at least 2 years of experience leading or anchoring a delivery team
Reporting to: Engineering Head

  1. Role Overview OctavoLab is looking for an experienced Technical Lead – Full Stack to lead a five-member engineering team and take ownership of application architecture, technical delivery, and engineering quality across multiple client projects. The immediate focus is on building two new web platforms for US-based healthcare clients: a clinical laboratory network console and a clinical-trial site operations platform. Both are new product developments with strict requirements for role-based access, audit logging, consent tracking, and electronic signatures. The role also involves working on other client projects across logistics, shipping SaaS, e-commerce, wallets, and integration-heavy platforms. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, with approximately 60% of the time spent on coding and the remaining time on architecture, code reviews, team management, and client technical discussions.
  2. Key Responsibilities • Own application architecture, database design, API design, and module structures across projects. • Design and implement authentication, authorization, role-based access control (RBAC), audit logging, consent management, and notification services. • Build scalable applications using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, React, and TypeScript. • Make architectural decisions between monolithic and microservices-based applications. • Develop and review code while maintaining coding standards, security, and performance. • Design third-party integrations with proper error handling and fallback mechanisms. • Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, API contracts, and design decisions. • Lead and mentor a team of four engineers, conduct code reviews, and improve engineering practices. • Manage sprint planning, task allocation, estimations, delivery timelines, and team capacity. • Communicate with clients, explain technical decisions, and conduct design walkthroughs. • Define automated testing strategies covering unit, integration, API, contract, and end-to-end testing. • Ensure production readiness through logging, monitoring, metrics, health checks, and error reporting. • Coordinate with DevOps and Cloud Engineers on deployments, infrastructure, migrations, and rollback strategies. • Ensure sensitive data is protected and test environments never contain real personal or patient data.
  3. Required Technical Skills • Backend: Strong production experience with Python, Django, and Django REST Framework. • Frontend: Strong experience with React and TypeScript, including component architecture and state management. • Database: Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design, indexing, transactions, and migrations. • Architecture: REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and service-to-service communication. • Security: Authentication, authorization, RBAC, and audit logging. • DevOps: Docker, Git, Linux, and CI/CD pipelines. • Documentation: OpenAPI, architecture documentation, and technical design decisions.
  4. Experience and Qualifications • 6–9 years of professional software development experience. • Minimum 2 years as a Technical Lead, Team Lead, or Anchor Engineer. • Experience independently designing and delivering a product from scratch. • Strong hands-on coding and technical decision-making abilities. • Experience managing and mentoring engineers. • Ability to communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly in English to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  5. Additional Technology Exposure Candidates should be willing to work across the company's wider technology stack, including: • Java with Spring Boot. • Node.js with Express or NestJS. • Vue 2 / Vue 3 with Pinia or Vuex. • Python FastAPI. • Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, and Celery. • AWS cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code. Expertise in every technology is not mandatory, but strong knowledge of the primary stack and willingness to work with other technologies is expected.
  6. Preferred Experience • Healthcare, clinical research, fintech, insurance, or other regulated product experience. • Knowledge of HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, data residency, and compliance requirements. • Experience in logistics, shipping, e-commerce, payments, and third-party API integrations. • Experience modernising legacy applications and tightly coupled systems. • Multi-tenant SaaS and multilingual product development experience. • OpenAPI, contract testing, distributed tracing, and performance testing. • Experience converting design prototypes into production-ready applications with small teams.
  7. First 90-Day Expectations • First 30 days: Establish architecture, database models, permission design, repository structure, API contracts, code review standards, and team delivery processes. • Days 31–60: Deliver production-ready authentication with second-factor verification, RBAC, audit logging, consent services, and the base component system. • Days 61–90: Ensure both platforms deliver demonstrable product features to clients regularly, supported by automated tests, architecture documentation, and a working release process.
  8. Performance Expectations Performance will be evaluated based on architectural quality, minimal rework, predictable sprint delivery, code review standards, security and authorization quality, team growth, engineering autonomy, documentation, and client communication.
  9. Employment Details • Work location: Hyderabad, office-based with hybrid flexibility after onboarding. • Working hours: Standard India business hours with limited overlap for client calls. • Compensation: Competitive and aligned with experience, discussed during screening. • On-call: No formal rotation during the build phase; shared best-effort support after production launch. • Internal designation and band will be confirmed at the appointment-letter stage and will never be lower than the role applied for.
  10. Application Process Candidates must submit their updated resume along with a short description of a system they personally architected and delivered with a team. The description should include the project domain, team size, most challenging technical trade-off, and what they would do differently now. Application email: [email protected] Email subject: Technical Lead — Full Stack — Candidate Name OctavoLab is an equal opportunity employer and evaluates candidates based on demonstrated technical capability and judgement.
