About the job
We are seeking a Data Scientist to help explore the analytics capabilities of the large variety of data at Carbon Arc. You will build and deploy production models to measure data quality, automate anomaly detection, construct monitoring systems, and think up new ways of leveraging our wide array of large-scale datasets.
This role is suited for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced startup, want ownership over our approach to complex analytics, are comfortable leveraging agentic workflows, and enjoy solving puzzles in a rich data playground.
What You’ll Do:
- Construct data systems and ML pipelines for generalized backtesting and confidence estimation across terabyte-scale datasets from vastly differing domains.
- Design experiments to measure the bias of incoming data and select statistically-representative data panels for downstream analytics.
- Partner with data analysts and applied scientists to enhance systems around entity resolution, knowledge graph mapping, and the construction of novel high-signal features from our rich datasets
- Collaborate with engineering to elevate Proof of Concepts into scalable ML/AI models deployed into client-facing production environments.
- Communicate complex findings to a broad audience consisting of Product, Engineering, and executive leadership.
What You'll Bring:
- B.S. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or other quantitative fields
- 2-3 years of professional experience in a Data Science or related role (internships and research experience count)
- Deep proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks, such as sklearn or statsmodels
- Proficiency with writing and optimizing SQL queries, building systems upon relational databases
- Git for source control and code review
- Experience building models using ML/AI techniques, such as supervised and unsupervised classification and regression, or building with LLMs and tabular/time series foundational models
- Responsible and efficient AI tool-use in day-to-day operations
- Passion for solving unstructured and novel technical problems
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with others to solve a problem
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners
Nice to have:
- Experience building dashboards for better non-technical visibility and control into technical processes (e.g., Streamlit, Dash, Tableau)
- Experience with or interest in distributed data and compute technologies (e.g., dbt, Spark, Ray, Kubernetes)
- Experience with or interest in analytics systems design and query engines (e.g., Iceberg, Trino, StarRocks)
- Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Experience with setting up agentic workflows and feedback loops, and leveraging AI development tools
