Pharmacy Assistant

Permanent, full-time opportunity

Location & Hours of Operation: Ability to commute to 98-18 Astoria Blvd, East Elmhurst, NY 11369, United States (currently operating as Max Pharmacy, transitioning to Affirming Care Pharmacy). The Pharmacy is currently open Monday to Thursday from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday from 10:30AM to 4:00PM. As we continue to grow, operating hours may adjust or expand beyond our current schedule to support business needs.

Who we hope to find:

We are looking for a Pharmacy Assistant to join our incredible Affirming Care Pharmacy team in East Elmhurst, NY. Reporting to our Supervising Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in supporting daily pharmacy operations, managing patient outreach, and assisting with prescription intake, preparation, packaging, and shipping under pharmacist supervision. Your work will directly support reducing health disparities and expanding access to care within diverse populations, including those in the LGBTQ2IA+ community. In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

Driving Patient Outreach & Engagement

• Owning high-volume outbound calls and texts to reach patients at key points in their care journey (new prescriptions, refill follow-ups, lapsed patients)
• Providing exceptional patient support across all communication channels: phone, SMS, email, and secure messaging
• Navigating insurance challenges with patients and proactively identifying solutions
• Maintaining consistent follow-up until contact is made and next steps are confirmed

Supporting Prescription & Pharmacy Operations

• Creating and updating patient profiles and maintaining internal pharmacy databases
• Assisting with the end-to-end prescription fulfillment process: preparing, counting, labelling, packaging, and shipping orders under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist
• Gathering complete and accurate prescription and insurance information during intake
• Maintaining an efficient, safe, and tidy dispensary
• Assisting with inventory management, stock replenishment, and unboxing shipments
• Ensuring every request is processed accurately and in accordance with state regulations and pharmacy policies

We need someone who has:

• 1+ years of experience in retail, customer service, or healthcare support (prior pharmacy, clinic, or medical office experience preferred)
• Willingness and interest in becoming a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) in New York State
• Flexibility to work different shifts, including potentially weekends and evenings
• Familiarity or comfort with healthcare/pharmacy software and data entry
• A positive attitude, a strong sense of urgency, and a team player mentality
• Enjoyment in performing a variety of tasks daily and a fast-paced work environment
• Strong attention to detail, time-management skills, and the ability to set priorities
• Active listening and strong communication skills (written and verbal)

It would also be great if you have:

• Prior experience in a community, mail-order, or specialty pharmacy setting
• Experience working within the 340B program
• Experience working with PioneerRx or similar pharmacy management systems.
• Fluency in Spanish

Compensation:

• $19.95-$22.11 per hour, reviewed annually
• The compensation listed above refers to an hourly rate that may vary depending on a candidate's relevant qualifications, knowledge, competencies and work experience, and other factors including market conditions.
