**Senior Mobile Software Engineer (Contract)
Remote | Contract | ~15 hrs/week

About the Role
Frontier AI models are getting better at writing code, but mobile engineering is still one of the hardest tests of their reasoning. Lifecycle quirks, async state, platform-specific behavior, and subtle performance regressions don’t yield to pattern-matching.
We’re looking for experienced mobile engineers to build the environments that expose those gaps. You’ll design realistic, difficult mobile engineering problems, build reproducible environments around them, and write the verifiers and reference solutions that tell us whether a model actually solved the problem. Your work directly shapes how the next generation of AI systems learns to reason about code.
This is flexible, remote contract work, ideal if you want to apply deep mobile expertise to a new kind of engineering problem alongside your main job or other projects.
What You’ll Do
Create realistic, challenging mobile coding tasks for frontier AI models, using repositories you know well
Design problems that demand real engineering judgment: tracking down subtle bugs, building non-trivial features, handling app state and lifecycle, refactoring, and improving performance
Build reproducible environments for each task so results are consistent and verifiable
Write deterministic verifiers that accept any correct implementation while rejecting incorrect, incomplete, or hard-coded solutions
Write a golden reference solution for every task, showing how the problem can be solved
What We’re Looking For
You have significant hands-on experience in at least one track:
Cross-platform: TypeScript/JavaScript with React Native, or Dart with Flutter
iOS: Swift with SwiftUI or UIKit
Android: Kotlin with Jetpack Compose or the Android View system
You also have:
A deep understanding of mobile architecture, state management, async programming, and the application lifecycle
A proven record of debugging complex mobile apps and delivering measurable performance improvements
The ability to think adversarially about solutions: you can anticipate the shortcuts and edge cases a model might exploit, and design tests that account for them
Strong written communication, since clear problem statements are part of the work
Nice to have:
Experience writing automated tests (unit, integration, or UI) for mobile apps
Familiarity with Docker or other tooling for reproducible builds
Open-source contributions or experience maintaining mobile codebases
Why This Role
Flexible: About 15 hours a week, fully remote, on your schedule
High-impact: Your work helps define how AI systems learn to solve real engineering problems
Intellectually engaging: You’re designing hard problems, not grinding through tickets
Use your own expertise: Choose repositories and problem types that match your strengths
