About the job
HEAL is building a screenless medication-adherence device with an AI voice companion. Say "Hey HEAL" and it dispenses the right pills at the right time, rising to meet your hand, and turns each day into a simple summary you can share with your doctor.
Our V1 prototype works: voice in, pills out. We won the AWS Hackathon, have been featured by the James Dyson Award, and have 50+ people signed up. Now we're building V2, and we need a founding mechanical engineer to own the physical product from CAD to a finished, fabricated device.
What you'll do
CAD: own the enclosure, dispensing mechanism, cartridge system, and a lift mechanism that rises when a hand approaches
Finalize the design: tolerances, materials, part interfaces, and fitting the electronics in with our software team
3D-printed test prototypes: print, assemble, and test dispensing accuracy, jams and cycle life, then improve the next version
Final fabricated prototype: move from printed parts to a fabricated V2, source vendors, and prepare drawings and a BOM
You'll fit if you have
Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar)
Hands-on 3D printing and prototyping experience
Experience designing small mechanisms: gears, cams, springs, small motors
DFM know-how and at least one fabrication process (CNC, injection molding, sheet metal)
Comfort owning problems end to end without a playbook
Based in the Bay area.
Bonus: consumer hardware or medical device experience, electromechanical integration, or a portfolio of products you've taken from sketch to physical object.
How it works
Part-time now (about 20–25 hours a week), hybrid in SF
Compensation: Equity plus deferred cash (salary accrued now, paid when our pre-seed round closes)
A path to a full-time, salaried role after the raise
We don't sponsor visas, but we can support candidates in their first year of OPT
Apply with your Resume and portfolio. CAD screenshots and photos of things you've built are what we look at first.
