Product Engineer

*About The Date Crew
*

The Date Crew is building a human-first matchmaking platform for relationship-ready professionals.
We don’t believe finding a life partner should be reduced to swipes, filters or endless profiles. We combine human judgment, psychology, technology and data to make matchmaking more thoughtful, efficient and effective.

As we scale, some of our most interesting challenges sit at the intersection of technology, product, operations and human behaviour.
And that’s exactly where this role comes in.

*The Role
*

We are looking for a slightly unusual person.
Someone technical, but not obsessed with writing code for the sake of writing code.
Someone who sees a messy business problem and instinctively starts asking:

  • Why is this happening?
  • What does the data say?
  • Where exactly is the bottleneck?
  • Can this be solved with a process change?
  • Should we automate it?
  • Should we build a product for it?
  • Can AI solve part of it?

What is the quickest way to test whether the solution actually works?
You will work across different parts of The Date Crew and solve problems spanning matchmaking, product, sales, marketing, customer experience and internal operations.

One week you could be improving how our matchmaking algorithm ranks profiles.
Another week you could be figuring out why customers are dropping off at a particular stage of the sales funnel.

The next problem could involve psychometric analysis, building an internal AI workflow, improving matchmaker productivity or automating a repetitive operational process.
Your job is not simply to build what someone tells you to build.
Your job is to understand the problem deeply and figure out the best way to solve it.

*What You’ll Work On
*

Examples of problems you may solve:

Matchmaking & Recommendation Systems
-Improve the way profiles are ranked and recommended.
-Identify signals that actually predict compatibility.
-Analyse acceptance/rejection behaviour and improve recommendation quality.
-Build internal tools that help matchmakers make better decisions.

Psychology & Compatibility
-Help structure psychometric or behavioural information.
-Explore how qualitative information can become useful product signals.
-Build tools that help our team better understand compatibility between two people.

Sales & Growth
-Analyse funnel drop-offs.
-Identify why leads don't convert.
-Build tools or automations to help the sales team prioritise leads.
-Experiment with new ways of improving conversion.

Operations
-Identify repetitive processes that should disappear.
-Build internal dashboards, automations and lightweight tools.
-Reduce operational errors and manual work.
-Improve how information flows between teams.

AI & Automation
-Prototype AI agents and workflows.
-Connect APIs, LLMs, CRMs and internal systems.
-Use AI where it genuinely improves speed or decision-making—not because AI sounds cool.

*What We’re Looking For
*

You probably have 1–3 years of experience in engineering, product, automation, data or an early-stage startup environment.

More importantly, you think like a builder.

*You should be comfortable with:
*

-Breaking ambiguous problems into smaller pieces.
-Understanding APIs, databases and system architecture.
-Writing enough code to build working solutions.
-Using AI coding tools to prototype quickly.
-Vibe coding and stitching different tools/services together.
-Working with SQL or analysing data.
-Thinking in terms of metrics and outcomes.
-Building MVPs before building perfect systems.
-Talking to users and internal teams before deciding what to build.

You don't necessarily need to be the world's best engineer.

But you should understand technology deeply enough to know what is possible, what is difficult and what is unnecessarily complicated.

*You’ll Probably Love This Role If
*

-You frequently build random tools because something annoys you.
-You have automated parts of your own life or work just because you could.
-You enjoy figuring out why something is happening more than simply completing assigned tasks.
-You can open a spreadsheet, look at a funnel and start forming hypotheses.
-You can talk to an operations person in the morning and build a prototype for them by evening.
-You are comfortable saying: “I don't think we should build this yet. Let me first understand whether this is actually the problem.”

*You Might Not Enjoy This Role If
*

-You want clearly defined tickets and specifications before starting work.
-You prefer working only on frontend, backend, data or one specific technical area.
-You measure productivity primarily through lines of code shipped.
-You dislike ambiguous problems.

This role will involve a lot of ambiguity.

*What Success Looks Like
*

-Within your first few months, we would expect you to:
-Identify high-impact problems independently.
-Develop clear hypotheses around those problems.
-Use data to validate them.
-Prototype solutions quickly.
-Work closely with the team using the solution.
-Measure whether the solution actually improved the metric.
-Kill ideas that don't work and iterate on the ones that do.
-Ultimately, your output isn't software.
-Your output is problems solved.

Compensation
₹10–12 lakh per annum + ESOPs

For the right person, this role can grow significantly as the product and technology organisation at The Date Crew evolves.
