Junior Systems Engineer – Windows, VMware, Hyper-V & Backup

About the Role

BTCAAS Consultants is looking for a motivated Junior Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure and Technology Operations team. This is a hands-on, fully remote Individual Contributor role supporting Windows Server, virtualization, backup and infrastructure services while working collaboratively with other technology towers.

The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of assigned activities, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, contribute to technical solutions, maintain high-quality documentation, and work closely with team members across Windows, virtualization, backup, cloud, networking and service-management functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day administration, monitoring and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows Server environments.

• Assist with Windows Server activities including system health checks, services, event logs, patching coordination, disk/storage management, user/service troubleshooting and general operating-system support.

• Support VMware vSphere / ESXi / vCenter environments, including VM health checks, provisioning support, snapshots, resource validation and basic virtualization troubleshooting.

• Support Microsoft Hyper-V environments, including virtual machine operations, host checks, storage/network validation and troubleshooting.

• Assist with Rubrik Backup and Recovery operations, including backup-job monitoring, failure analysis, SLA validation, restore requests and recovery testing.

• Monitor infrastructure alerts and proactively investigate system, virtualization and backup issues before they affect business services.

• Participate in Incident, Request, Problem and Change Management activities in accordance with ITIL practices.

• Support P1/P2 incidents when required and work with resolver teams to restore services within agreed service levels.

• Raise and manage change records for planned infrastructure activities and ensure appropriate implementation, validation and rollback information is documented.

• Work as an Individual Contributor, taking ownership of assigned technical tasks from analysis through implementation and closure.

• Assist in designing and implementing practical infrastructure solutions under the guidance of senior engineers and architects.

• Collaborate with Windows, Virtualization, Backup, Cloud, Network, Security and Application teams, sharing operational workload and helping resolve cross-technology issues.

• Coordinate with internal teams, customers and vendors where required for troubleshooting, implementation and service restoration.

• Prepare and maintain high-quality SOPs, runbooks, knowledge-base articles, implementation plans, troubleshooting guides and technical documentation.

• Ensure all activities, incidents, requests and changes are accurately documented within the relevant ITSM platform.

• Participate in operational reviews, service improvement activities and technical knowledge-transfer sessions.

• Identify repetitive operational tasks and recommend opportunities for standardization, automation or process improvement.

• Maintain professional communication and provide regular updates to stakeholders during incidents, changes and assigned activities.
