About the job
About Synergyboat
SynergyBoat builds software products for companies that want to move fast and scale. We're a remote-first product engineering studio; we believe great talent isn't tied to one city. We work with a small number of clients and handle everything: strategy, design, engineering, and quality. Our work spans EV infrastructure, logistics, and SaaS, with 10+ products shipped and clients who have stayed with us for years.
We're a small, senior team with no layers. We look for owners: people who want a function to be theirs, not a ticket queue. If that sounds like you, keep reading.
The Role
We're hiring a dedicated QA engineer to own quality for a live, production product with multiple third-party system integrations. You won't be one tester among twenty executing someone else's test plan: you'll have real ownership of the automation frameworks, test infrastructure, CI/CD integration, and test strategy, with the founders and engineering team working alongside you.
This is an engineering role, not a testing role. You write code every day: building and maintaining automation frameworks, writing integration and API test suites, and treating test code with the same craft as production code. You'll work directly with the founders, understand the product deeply, and over time grow into direct client-facing ownership: presenting quality status, walking stakeholders through findings, and being the voice of "is this ready to ship?"
You should be genuinely excited about using AI tools as a force multiplier: generating test cases from requirements, accelerating automation coverage, and debugging faster. We work AI-first, and we expect you to as well.
What You'll Do
- Build and own the quality engineering function for a production product. You define what "tested" means, then engineer the systems that enforce it
- Architect, build, and maintain automation frameworks for web applications using Cypress or Playwright, written in TypeScript/JavaScript, structured for scale and reuse
- Build API and integration test suites in code, not just Postman collections. The product connects to multiple external systems, and integration correctness is the heart of this role
- Wire automation into CI/CD so every build runs the suites, failures surface immediately, and releases are gated on quality
- Write test plans and test cases from user stories and requirements, then translate them into automated coverage
- Run sanity, smoke, regression, and integration cycles for every release, and make the ship/no-ship call credible
- Troubleshoot and debug like an engineer. Read logs, trace requests across services, isolate whether the issue is frontend, backend, or a third-party system, and file bugs developers can act on immediately
- Leverage AI tools daily to generate test cases, scaffold automation code, analyze failures, and continuously expand coverage without expanding headcount
- Own the bug lifecycle: triage, prioritize, verify fixes, and keep a clean, trustworthy bug board
- Grow into client interaction. Once you know the product, you'll join client calls and report quality status directly to stakeholders
What We're Looking For
Must Have
- 3+ years as an SDET or automation engineer, writing test code daily (not manual-only or tool-only backgrounds)
- Strong programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript (Python also welcome): you can build a framework, not just write scripts inside one
- Deep hands-on experience with Cypress or Playwright or cucumber: page objects/fixtures, custom commands, parallelization, and flake management
- API test automation in code (e.g., Playwright API testing, REST Assured, Supertest, or similar), beyond Postman collections: auth flows, request chaining, response validation, and contract checks
- Experience testing integrated systems: products where multiple services, third-party APIs, or platforms talk to each other
- Working knowledge of CI/CD: running suites in pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar), reading failures, and keeping runs fast and reliable
- Debugging instincts. Able to read browser consoles, network traces, and server logs to localize an issue before filing it
- Demonstrated, habitual use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) in your engineering workflow: test generation, code scaffolding, failure analysis
- Strong written communication. Your bug reports and status updates are documents people trust
Bonus points:
- Database validation skills in SQL or MongoDB
- Performance and security testing experience
- Cloud platforms experience (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and running automation in them
- EV or mobility product experience
Benefits
- Cutting-edge products to work on, built AI-first
- Collaborative and supportive team environment
- Professional growth and development opportunity
