About the job
Make a real-time AI feel alive.
AtendaCare is looking for an exceptional motion and interaction designer to help define how our conversational AI moves, responds, and feels.
The product is functional. The UX works. Now we want the layer that makes people stop and go, “Whoa.”
Thoughtful motion. Subtle sound. Presence in the tiny moments. Less dashboard, more presence.
THE CHALLENGE
Atenda is a conversational AI designed initially for family caregivers. People can talk with her naturally through voice or text. She listens, responds, remembers and maintains context over time.
There are fascinating interaction moments throughout that experience, and that’s what you’ll be shaping.
We don't want Atenda to feel like a website or a sequence of screens.
Think environment.
One continuous place where elements appear, move, recede and respond naturally. That doesn't mean big animations or long transitions. Quite the opposite. Everything needs to be quick, subtle and exceptionally well crafted.
We want caregivers to be slightly dazzled, over and over, by moments that might last only hundreds of milliseconds.
We’re not asking you to redesign how Atenda works.
Your canvas is the milliseconds between the things that already work.
Use them to turn a functional product into an environment.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
Motion and animation systems, screen and state transitions, launch experience, microinteractions, real-time voice states, listening/thinking/streaming/speaking behaviors, loading and latency moments, subtle sonic feedback, success and error states, and reusable motion patterns.
This isn't a beautification pass. We want you to help establish a motion and interaction language that our team can continue using as Atenda grows.
You'll work directly with the founders and our founding engineer. He can implement from spec. You bring the taste.
TECHNICAL CONTEXT
The caregiver experience is built from a single React Native codebase and ships across iOS, Android and web. What you design needs to feel exceptional on a phone while translating naturally to a desktop browser.
There’s no off-the-shelf component library. The existing interface uses a unified set of design tokens for color, typography and spacing, with light and dark modes and user-adjustable text sizing.
Atenda is also real-time. Responses stream word by word, voice can be interrupted mid-sentence, and the interface has distinct listening, thinking, streaming, speaking and interrupted states. Motion can't simply decorate static screens. It needs to work naturally while the experience is actively changing.
Your primary deliverables can be designs, prototypes, motion studies, tokens, assets and implementation-ready specifications. Our engineer will handle production implementation.
If you also happen to be great with React Native, TypeScript, Reanimated or Rive/Lottie-style production workflows, fantastic. But we're hiring for extraordinary interaction and motion design first.
WHY THIS MATTERS
We're starting with dementia caregivers, where an enormous amount of actual care happens at home.
Atenda supports the family member who's there through all of it: the changes in behavior, medications, sleep, appointments, questions, difficult days and the thousand little things that happen between physician visits.
Those conversations can also become structured longitudinal summaries clinicians can review, helping them see what's been happening at home instead of relying solely on what can be reconstructed during an office visit.
We're starting with dementia. But the opportunity is much larger.
If we get this right, millions of families could eventually interact with something you helped shape.
We want that experience to be worthy of them.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Your portfolio matters far more than your resume. We're looking for someone with exceptional taste in motion, interaction and micro-details. Someone who notices the transition everyone else ignores. Someone who can make something feel technologically advanced without making it flashy, intimidating or gimmicky.
You don't need healthcare experience. In fact, we'd love to see work from AI, consumer technology, automotive interfaces, gaming, fintech, spatial interfaces or anywhere else exceptional digital experiences are being created.
Show us the work where you obsessed over something everyone else would've called “good enough.”
ENGAGEMENT
This is initially a 2–6 week remote contract engagement, but this won't be the last time Atenda evolves. For the right person, there's real potential for ongoing work as we grow.
Send us your portfolio and tell us which piece best represents the kind of work you'd want to bring to AtendaCare.
We love people who care about 400 milliseconds.
