Senior Software Engineer — Java (AI-Native)

Our client is a large banking platform based in the US. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support their growing application demand — designing and developing the software solutions that connect banking equipment and systems. You'll design creative, scalable solutions, communicate confidently with technical personnel, and work closely with other teams to deliver. You'll collect and assess functional requirements, deliver under tight timelines, and use AI-assisted engineering responsibly to increase delivery capacity without compromising quality, security, or ownership.

What you'll do (primary responsibilities):

• Maintain and extend existing product lines: functional enhancements, bug fixing, and code optimization.
• Complete component design from the Architect/Tech Lead's system design to incorporate new features.
• Take ownership of new feature Epics end-to-end.
• Research and work with Product Management and Tech Leads on requirements, solution options, high-level estimates, and potential impacts.
• Produce solution-focused proof-of-concept designs around new data technologies and make appropriate recommendations.
• Adapt and learn new technologies in support of project needs and direction from the Solution Architect.
• Keep documentation current with changes from new sprint requirements.
• Mentor junior developers and interns on coding best practices, product and business context, and time management.
• Provide second-level support to the technical support staff on customer issues.

Necessary Qualifications:

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent major.
• Software architecture design.
• Understanding of object-oriented concepts.
• Advanced knowledge of databases (relational/non-relational).
• Software Development Life Cycle.

Required skills (must have applicable work experience, not solely academic):

8+ years' experience with Java.
7+ years' experience with the Spring Framework.
7+ years' experience with object-oriented concepts, web technologies, and web services.
4+ years' experience with software architecture design.
4+ years' experience with microservices and threading.
4+ years' experience with REST APIs.

AI-Native Engineering Skills:

• Demonstrated hands-on use of AI coding assistants or engineering agents (such as Kiro, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor) for development, debugging, refactoring, documentation, and test creation.
• Ability to turn requirements into clear specifications, acceptance criteria, task breakdowns, and implementation plans understandable to both engineers and AI tools.
• Experience with AI-assisted or agentic software development practices, including context management, reusable project guidance/steering files, and spec-driven development.
• Strong judgment when reviewing AI-generated code: validate correctness, intent alignment, maintainability, security, performance, test quality, and unintended side effects.
• Ability to use AI securely: protect source code, secrets, customer data, and PII; follow approved-tool and data-boundary requirements; and retain human accountability and auditability.
