About the job

Who we are

State Street’s IS Sales Enablement business delivers institutional grade custody, clearing, and platform services to wealth managers, broker dealers, and financial institutions. As business continues to scale its digital and cloud native platforms, we are building modern, resilient backend systems that support high volume financial transactions, real-time data access, and regulatory grade controls.

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership across our backend and data platforms, shaping architecture, engineering standards, and system reliability for mission critical wealth technology.

Role Summary

As a senior technical leader within the IS Sales Enablement you will architect, design, and lead the development of high-scale, low-latency distributed systems in a cloud native environment. This role operates at a staff/principal level, influencing architecture and engineering practices across multiple teams and domains.

You will partner closely with product, data, risk, and business stakeholders to deliver financial grade systems that meet stringent requirements for accuracy, availability, security, and regulatory compliance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Leads end-to-end delivery of cloud-native data platforms as products, enabling scalable, reusable services across enterprise business lines.
  • Drives enterprise adoption of public cloud databases through standardized patterns, self-service capabilities, and developer-centric platform design.
  • Architects and delivers highly resilient, distributed systems meeting strict availability, performance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partners closely with Risk, Compliance, and Security to ensure platforms meet the highest standards for auditability, data protection, and governance.
  • Executes large-scale cloud transformation initiatives, including zero-downtime migrations of mission-critical workloads.
  • Builds and scales high-performing teams while delivering material cost efficiencies and operational improvements through platform standardization and automation.

Required Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering and platform engineering, with a strong track record of building and scaling distributed systems in enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience designing and operating cloud-native data platforms on AWS/GCP/Azure, including managed database services (e.g., Aurora, DynamoDB, MongoDB Atlas).
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-availability, fault-tolerant architecture, including multi-region/availability zone deployments, resiliency testing, and SLO-driven engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, and automation of platform provisioning and deployment.
  • Strong understanding of data platform patterns, including real-time data processing, change data capture (CDC), and large-scale data migration strategies.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments, partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Security to meet audit, governance, and data protection requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and scale global engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and driving engineering excellence.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale transformation initiatives with measurable impact on cost optimization (FinOps), performance, and time-to-market.

Domain Expertise – Wealth & Financial Services

  • Strong understanding of wealth management, brokerage, or financial services platforms

  • Familiarity with core financial concepts, including:

  • Portfolio management and rebalancing

  • Trading systems and order lifecycle management

  • Market data ingestion and processing

  • Account structures, tax optimization, or retirement products

  • Experience building systems requiring high precision (e.g., monetary calculations), full auditability, and regulatory compliance

  • Working knowledge of financial regulations or standards (e.g., SEC, FINRA, GDPR) is a strong plus

Technical Skills

  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices based architectures

  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)

  • Proficiency with data storage technologies, including PostgreSQL, distributed data stores, and caching layers

  • Handson experience with event driven architectures, messaging systems (e.g., Kafka), and API design

  • Strong understanding of system design tradeoffs, including consistency, latency, scalability, and resiliency

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Equivalent practical experience will be considered
