About the job

About You and The Role

Zipline’s Manufacturing and Research teams are expanding laboratories, manufacturing, warehouse, and office spaces where cutting-edge drone technology is built, tested, and prepared for deployment. Keeping these environments safe and compliant enables reliable technology development and deployment.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will own day-to-day EHS program execution across these spaces. You will be accountable for job hazard assessments, safety training development and implementation, identifying and managing corrective-action closure, and assisting with emergency preparedness. Your primary job will be to ensure the safety of our Manufacturing and Research teams in a rapidly scaling environment.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety observations; identify root causes and drive corrective actions to documented closure.
  • Prioritize high-risk hazards and overdue corrective actions by severity, exposure, and compliance risk; escalate unresolved issues through the EHS Manager.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, hazard assessments, JHAs, ergonomic evaluations, and new material or process reviews across laboratory, manufacturing, warehouse, and office areas.
  • Build job- and space-specific training requirements; develop Docebo content with Manufacturing subject-matter experts and manage required certifications.
  • Maintain EHS documentation for OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable permitting agencies.
  • Assist with overseeing EHS contractors, hazardous waste management, chemical inventories, and PPE allocation.
  • Partner with Facilities on space planning, building-management projects, emergency preparedness, evacuation drills, and safe access to industrial and mechanical spaces.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2–5 years of EHS experience supporting research, laboratory, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements, workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard assessments, chemical safety, PPE, and hazardous waste management.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and sound judgment when working directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Operations teams.
  • Strong organization and follow-through across multiple priorities as spaces, processes, and risks evolve.
  • Ability to work onsite in South San Francisco; walk laboratory and manufacturing spaces, occasionally lift up to 30 pounds, wear required PPE, and occasionally access ladders, rooftops, or mechanical spaces.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace; experience with R&D laboratories, advanced manufacturing, EHS management systems, ISO 14001/45001, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, ASP, CSP, or CIH is valued.
