AI Engineering Lead

ABOUT SHIFT
Shift is an early-stage UK startup building an AI agent platform for enterprise transformation. Instead of large delivery teams, our agents handle the research, planning, building and validation behind complex programmes.

THE ROLE
You'll own the intelligence layer of the platform end to end: designing, building and improving the agent systems that make it work. This is systems engineering applied to AI, not prompt tinkering.

You'll be the technical authority on the product, working with the Product Owner. They own the what and the why. You own the how. Senior role, real ownership, full autonomy. No layers, no politics.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Production experience building with leading LLM APIs, well beyond toy projects
• Strong Python and a track record building robust services
• Hands-on experience grounding agents in real context
• Systems thinking and a bias for shipping
• Comfort with ambiguity
