Backend Engineering Intern

What is RentOk?

RentOk is a B2B SaaS platform that powers property management and rent payments for landlords, brokers, and co-working operators across India. A large number of properties run on RentOk right from finding a tenant, getting their KYC and documentation done, payments, settlement and reconciliation and team and access management. We are in every step of the flow around rental property management.

We're a small, high-output engineering team based out of Gurugram. No bureaucracy, no hand-holding. You'll read real code, fix real bugs, and ship real features from week one.

What you'll actually do

• Work directly with senior engineers on the Core & Scale pod
• Write and debug Node.js/TypeScript backend code on a live, production codebase
• Write real SQL — JOINs, CTEs, indexes — not just ORM calls
• Help build internal reports, data pipelines, and operational tooling
• Debug production issues: trace a stack, read a query plan, find what broke and why
• Pick up tasks from our sprint board and own them end-to-end

Who we're looking for

We care about what you've built, not where you studied.

You're a strong fit if you:

• Have built at least one backend project from scratch — a REST API, a CLI tool, a bot, anything that actually runs and does something real
• Can write a SQL query beyond SELECT * FROM table and understand why an index exists
• Have debugged something hard and gone to the root cause, not just the workaround
• Solved 150+ problems on LeetCode (medium/hard) or have a Codeforces rating — or shipped something that proves you can think
• Have done an internship at a startup, won a hackathon, published research, or built a side project that people actually use — any of these signals matter a lot to us

You don't need to know our exact stack on day one. If you can think, debug, and learn fast, we'll get you up to speed.

Brownie points (not required, but we'll notice)

• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, or PostgreSQL
• Comfortable on Linux — bash, SSH, cron, the basics
• You've won a hackathon (SIH, IIT hackathons, MLH — winning matters, not just participating)
• You've published research, even a workshop paper
• You've deployed something with real users
