Backend Engineer (Python)

About the role
We’re building a vertical AI Sales OS platform that automates and improves the sales process
end-to-end. The goal is simple: human-level sales capability at machine speed, with tight
integrations into real workflows (telephony, WhatsApp/CRM handoffs, scheduling, reporting).
As a Founding Backend Engineer, you’ll own core systems that power real-time voice/chat
interactions, campaign execution, data pipelines, and customer-facing reliability. This is a
high-ownership role with meaningful ESOP upside.

What you’ll do
● Build and ship backend services in Python for core product workflows (campaigns, lead
orchestration, reporting, integrations).
● Design and maintain scalable REST APIs and internal services.
● Work on real-time systems: event-driven pipelines, queues, streaming workflows, and
low-latency services.
● Implement caching and performance optimizations (Redis or equivalent), rate limiting,
retries, idempotency, and observability.
● Integrate with external APIs (telephony, STT/TTS providers, LLM endpoints, WhatsApp,
CRMs).
● Own reliability: monitoring, incident response, deployment hygiene, and
cost-performance tuning.
● Collaborate closely with the founder on architecture, product decisions, and roadmap
priorities.

What we’re looking for (must-have)
● Strong Python backend engineering experience.
● Solid understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and API design best practices.
● Experience building systems with real-time constraints (webhooks, queues, event
processing, background workers).
● Practical knowledge of caching concepts (Redis/memcache), database fundamentals,
and performance debugging.
● Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts and how to integrate model/API outputs into
production systems (LLMs, STT/TTS, embeddings, evaluation basics).
● Comfortable working in ambiguity and taking end-to-end ownership.
Good to have
● DevOps skills: Docker, CI/CD, Kubernetes, cloud (GCP/AWS), infra monitoring.
● Experience with distributed systems, message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS), or
workflow engines.
● Prior work on voice/telephony systems, WebRTC, or streaming audio pipelines.
● Experience building B2B SaaS (billing, RBAC, audit logs, multi-tenant systems).
