Role Overview:

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build and scale the systems powering FOXO's products and AI-driven experiences. You will work closely with Product, AI, Frontend, and Design teams to develop reliable backend services, APIs, and data workflows that serve thousands of users.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building products from the ground up, solving complex technical problems, and working in a fast-paced startup environment.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python and FastAPI.
• Build scalable APIs and integrations that power web, mobile, and AI applications.
• Collaborate with Product, AI, and Frontend teams to deliver customer-facing features.
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and backend workflows.
• Integrate third-party services, external APIs, and AI/LLM platforms.
• Monitor application performance and troubleshoot production issues.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decisions.
• Continuously improve system reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.

What We're Looking For:

• 3–5 years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI.
• Experience building and shipping production-grade APIs and backend services.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and system design fundamentals.
• Experience working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
• Familiarity with Redis, background jobs, queues, or caching systems.
• Experience deploying and maintaining applications on AWS, GCP, or similar cloud platforms.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of features end-to-end.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience building AI-powered applications or integrating LLM APIs.
• Familiarity with Docker and modern deployment workflows.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures, message queues, or microservices.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
• Startup experience and a strong ownership mindset.
• Contributions to open-source projects or personal side projects.
