Technology Manager
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum
Contract Type: Contract to Permanent, Full-Time
Start Date: As soon as possible
About the company
They are a progressive, London-based charity committed to meaningful social impact. Technology sits at the heart of how we deliver our services, manage our relationships with donors and grant applicants, and support the communities we serve. They are at an exciting point in our journey, actively investing in our technology function, building out a forward-looking digital strategy, and exploring how AI and automation can help the teams work smarter and focus more time on the work that matters. This is not a caretaker role. We are looking for someone who can help shape what the technology function becomes, not just manage what it is today.
The Role
As Technology Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic development of the organisation's technology estate. You will lead on platforms, systems, and tools that underpin our fundraising, grant management, finance, and service delivery operations, with Salesforce at the centre.
You will work closely with senior leadership to build and execute a technology roadmap that improves operational efficiency, enhances the experience for donors and grant applicants, and positions the organisation to take meaningful advantage of emerging AI and automation capabilities.
This role combines hands-on platform management with genuine strategic input. You will need to be equally comfortable configuring a Salesforce workflow and presenting a technology investment case to the leadership team.
What You Will Be Doing
Technology Strategy and Roadmap
- Work with the leadership team to develop and maintain a clear technology strategy aligned to the charity's operational and mission-driven objectives
- Identify and prioritise opportunities to introduce AI and automation across core processes, including donation management, grant applications, and service delivery
- Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors and third-party providers
- Stay current with sector best practice and emerging tools relevant to the charity technology landscape
Salesforce Platform Management
- Own the day-to-day administration, configuration, and continuous improvement of the Salesforce CRM, the organisation's primary system for managing donor relationships, fundraising activity, and engagement data
- Design and implement workflows, custom objects, validation rules, and automation within Salesforce to support operational teams
- Lead the evolution of the donation management function within Salesforce, improving data quality, reporting, and Gift Aid processing where applicable
- Manage user access, permissions, and data integrity across the platform
- Provide training and first-line support to internal Salesforce users
Systems and Tools Management
- Manage and optimise Plinth, supporting grant pipeline management, AI-assisted due diligence, and impact reporting workflows
- Oversee the organisation's use of Sage for financial management, working closely with the finance team to ensure accurate integration between financial and operational systems
- Lead improvements to the service desk ticketing system, improving resolution times, self-service capability, and user satisfaction
- Drive the simplification and digitisation of grant application forms, reducing friction for applicants and administrative burden on internal teams
- Manage Microsoft 365 administration and the broader desktop and productivity environment
AI and Automation
- Identify practical, high-value use cases for AI and automation across the organisation's operations
- Work with internal teams and external partners to scope, pilot, and implement automation workflows that reduce manual administration and improve service delivery
- Bring an informed, grounded view on AI tools, what they can genuinely deliver, what requires human oversight, and where the risks lie
Team and Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for all technology-related queries and escalations across the organisation
- Manage third-party IT support, development, and infrastructure partners
- Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders, translating technical decisions and constraints into plain language
- Support and develop any direct reports as the technology team grows
Who We Are Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience in a technology management, IT manager, or systems manager role, ideally within a charity, housing association, public sector, or similarly mission-driven organisation
- Strong, hands-on Salesforce administration experience, you have configured and managed a live Salesforce org and understand it from the inside out
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple platforms and vendor relationships simultaneously
- Experience working with finance systems, ideally including Sage or a comparable accounting platform
- Working knowledge of service desk or IT support ticketing systems and ITIL-aligned practices
- A track record of leading process improvement or digital transformation projects from scoping through to delivery
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable briefing senior stakeholders and supporting end users in equal measure
- Practical, grounded understanding of AI and automation tools and how they apply in an operational context
- Strong data literacy, comfortable working with data quality, reporting requirements, and GDPR-compliant data management
Desirable
- Salesforce certification (Administrator, Nonprofit Cloud, or equivalent)
- Experience with Plinth or similar charity-specific AI and grant management platforms
- Knowledge of Gift Aid administration and HMRC integration requirements
- Experience simplifying and redesigning digital forms or applicant-facing processes
- Familiarity with Make.com, Zapier, or similar workflow automation tools
- Experience managing a small technology team or coordinating external development contractors
Personal Qualities
- You are pragmatic and delivery-focused — you get things done without waiting for perfect conditions
- You can hold a strategic view while staying close enough to the detail to spot problems early
- You are genuinely motivated by mission-driven work and understand the constraints that charities operate within
- You communicate with clarity, patience, and without jargon
- You take ownership and can work with a degree of autonomy, but you know when to escalate and consult
What We Offer
- Salary up to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Hybrid working, a blend of office-based collaboration and remote working
- Generous annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays
- Pension contribution
- The opportunity to shape and lead a growing technology function at a progressive organisation
