About the job

As Ursa Major continues it's growth within the realm of solid propulsion, we’re assembling the most innovative and nimble team to unseat the reigning players. We’re applying the latest technologies to an outdated business model that improves cost, lead time, and flexibility without impacting reliability. We must continue to build in-house capabilities in energetics, ballistics, and composites with an emphasis on novel designs focused on manufacturability and high-rate scalability.

Success in this role requires a safety-first approach, a willingness and desire to learn and an attention to detail mindset. As a part of the operations team, you will be a key component of the rocket motor development process. You will be responsible for working alongside engineering and production teams to take a product from an early developmental state to a final production readiness state.

As a front-line employee, you will have vital input on process development and continuous improvement efforts. Ability to provide engineers and other development team members with valuable feedback will allow future scalability and growth.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Inerts Dev Tech will report to the Development Team Lead and work alongside other development technicians as well as engineering teams from the development and production sides of the business as you work to bring products out of early development state and into a Low Rate In Production (LRIP) state
  • Inerts Dev Techs will be responsible for helping engineers red line and improve in-process work instructions while utilizing the rough drafts to build development rocket motors
  • Working closely with engineering during time critical processes to ensure that the required knowledge is documented and shared with all responsible parties
  • Working a flexible schedule that allows for unknown hurdles to be tackled as a team
  • Utilize moderate to advanced problem-solving skills to work across teams and improve processes while employing a self-starter mindset
  • Provide guidance and insight to Operations Technicians on LRIP products and problems that may arise during their work
  • Provide basic training on development processes as they approach a LRIP status
  • Provide assistance to engineering with fabricating and installing custom tooling for machines and pre-production hardware
  • Be an active leader in 5S and continuous improvement activities
  • Complete transaction in computer production systems on a daily or weekly basis
  • Complete certification training and maintain required certifications, as required
  • Join a positive and collaborative team culture that promotes product knowledge, skills development, and a desire to grow
  • Show up every day with a high level of urgency and enthusiasm to get the job done
  • Perform detailed daily record keeping and reporting
  • Perform Work Verifications (Second Set of Eyes)

Required Qualifications

  • A safety-oriented mindset with a high focus on quality and development processes
  • Attention to detail and situational awareness
  • Able to lift 50lbs without assistance
  • Basic knowledge of milling, turning, and other machining operations
  • Advanced knowledge/aptitude around mechanical systems and tools
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and designs
  • Experience handling hazardous chemicals and materials (beyond standard solvents)
  • Experience utilizing metrology instruments and tools
  • Experience working with engineering to develop/improve processes and standard operating procedures
  • 2+ years of experience working in a manufacturing or development environment
  • Ability to wear a respirator

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing work environments
  • Experience with polymerics and mixing techniques
  • Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks
  • Self-starter with a desire to improve and work across a multi team environment
  • Develop and deliver on preventative maintenance programs
  • Flexible schedule
