About the job

About Us:

nEye Systems is an optical switch startup founded in 2020 to revolutionize the future of data centers. nEye’s MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) eliminate critical bottlenecks in AI processing by enabling direct optical connections among thousands of GPUs and memory units. The company's SuperSwitch is an ultra-low power consumption, high radix, compact chip-scale design, offering hyperscale data centers enhanced performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Job Overview:

As a Test Engineering Manager at nEye Systems, you will lead the strategic design, development, and implementation of test procedures and systems to ensure the quality and performance of our Si photonics MEMS devices and components. This role involves both technical execution and leadership responsibilities, including mentoring team members, coordinating testing efforts, and driving continuous improvement. You will work closely with nEye Si Photonics designers, System and Software Engineers, and MEMS/Process Engineers to design and implement testing protocols, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to the advancement of our photonics products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test System Development: Design and develop test systems and procedures for evaluating the performance and reliability of photonics devices and components.
  • Test Automation: Implement automated testing solutions to improve efficiency and repeatability in the testing process.
  • Optical Testing: Conduct optical measurements and tests to evaluate parameters such as power, wavelength, and signal integrity.
  • Device Characterization: Perform detailed characterization of photonics devices to understand their behavior under different conditions.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze test data, identify trends, and generate reports to provide insights into the performance of photonics products.
  • Management: Manage a team of Test Engineers and drive milestones and deliverables of testing activities on our Si photonics MEMS devices and components.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with nEye team members to understand testing requirements, contribute to the modification and improvement of nEye designs, and address any issues.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues related to test setups, equipment, or device performance.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of test procedures, results, and any modifications to testing protocols.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in the continuous improvement of testing processes and contribute to innovations in photonics testing methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Photonics, Optics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years hands-on experience with 3+ years of people management experience
  • Strong background in photonics and optical testing methodologies.
  • Experience in developing and implementing test procedures for photonics devices.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing technical teams.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in using test equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, and network analyzers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with the design and fabrication of MEMS structures and optoelectronic devices.
  • Understanding of industry standards for photonics testing.
  • Familiarity with reliability testing and failure analysis.
  • Experience in optical packaging, co-packaged optics, and hybrid bonding
  • Experience in design and fabrication of devices with both micro- and nano-scale features

Benefits & Perks:

  • Opportunity to join a small, well-funded start-up company that is doing pioneering work in optical switches
  • Competitive salary and equity package, including early-stage company stock options
  • 401k
  • Full healthcare coverage: medical, dental, and vision
  • Fitness center access
