About the job
About Blue J
Blue J is the leading solution in generative AI for tax experts. Our cutting edge, AI-driven tax research software is the best in the market, driving deeper, more efficient research answers for accountants and lawyers across North America and in the UK.
Our team is racing ahead with exciting product development plans to take our UK tax platform to a new level. This role can be done from anywhere in Canada by all applicants who are eligible to work in Canada.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Tax Lawyer or Tax Accountant with 4-7 years of experience working in UK tax to join our team as a UK Tax Research Associate. Our ideal candidate will be well-versed in UK Tax. As a UK Tax Research Associate, your tax expertise will play a central role in continuing to develop Blue J, our large language model-enabled tax research tool, for the UK market. As a key member of our growing team of tax researchers, you’ll have the unique opportunity to participate in building the next generation of world-class tax research tools. In this role, you will gain invaluable experience and learn from some of the best in the field of AI and tax. While we’re an AI company, experience in AI is not required. We’re looking for someone who loves tax and is passionate about how technology can make tax law more transparent and accessible. Your tax expertise will be instrumental in helping our team as we move this mission forward and take Blue J to new heights.
If this sounds like something that you’re excited about, we would love to meet you! We’re a team of passionate, driven, and friendly people all working towards the same goal, and can’t wait to see the contributions you will make!
What You'll be Doing
Tax Research. You will use your excellent tax research skills and knowledge to quickly locate relevant primary and secondary sources using standard tax research skills; understand and summarize tax law questions in multiple areas and jurisdictions; evaluate sources for accuracy and currency; efficiently analyze source documents to support your analysis; adapt quickly to researching new jurisdictions and different areas of tax law; and assess the quality and accuracy of AI-generated tax analysis. While you will be primarily responsible for UK tax research and review, you will also be expected to contribute to our Canadian and US platforms as part of the legal research team.
Teamwork. You will use your tax knowledge to work with tax lawyers and accountants, and alongside a team of computer developers and data scientists to build and improve our AI tools. You will build strong relationships with the entire tax research team and the data science and technology team, working collaboratively and learning from each other. You will thrive in our environment where diverse thoughts are welcome and innovation is encouraged. Experience in programming and data science is not necessary – just an open mind and an eagerness to collaborate.
Strategic thinking. As a core member of our product team, you will have a sense of pride and ownership, constantly thinking strategically and critically about how we can continuously improve the Blue J products.
Evolving based on client needs. Our goal is to work in true partnership with our clients (tax professionals) by attending to their feedback, troubleshooting, and incorporating their recommendations to consistently and reliably add value to our tax platforms. A key skill in this role is adaptability and openness to new ideas.
