About the job
About Eigen
Eigen builds AI-powered products that transform the world's largest companies.
While enterprises recognize AI's potential, they often lack the expertise and agility to harness it. Eigen brings together elite engineering talent from leading AI companies & research labs to ship products for them with language models at their core. We're a profitable, growing business with talent from Stanford AI Lab, Harvard, Uber, Tinder, and Superhuman. Our clients represent $50B+ in market cap and $250B+ in AUM.
We operate by building teams to solve our clients' problems, and Apex Learning is one of those teams.
About the team
One of our clients is Alpha School, a well-funded and ambitious organization setting out to change K-12 education. The results are groundbreaking: students crush their academic goals in just two hours a day, freeing up the other six to discover new interests, explore passions, and develop crucial life skills. Alpha students learn 2x faster than their peers and place in the top 1% of students nationwide.
Alpha's mission is to bring the 2 Hour Learning model to millions of students around the globe, and that starts with building great software. Eigen's edtech apps put LLMs at the heart of subjects like reading and writing, giving students instant, personalized feedback and allowing them to learn about things they love.
Alpha is growing rapidly, and so is our mandate. Eigen currently maintains 4 active products that are deployed to hundreds of students, with thousands more on the way. To accommodate this growth, we're spinning up Apex Learning, a dedicated team within Eigen that will design & ship world-class AI learning software.
What you'll do
As the Tech Lead of the Apex Learning team, you'll set the technical blueprint for our products, lead and grow the engineering team, and push code as a key contributor. You'll be responsible for the team's successful delivery of new features and products to students on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities
Provide product input and execute on roadmaps to accomplish Alpha School objectives.
Build and maintain engineering infrastructure to ship tested, LLM-based software.
Lead, mentor, and develop an effective remote engineering team.
Build a culture of metrics, measurement, and test-driven development.
Stay hands-on with product development by contributing code and prompts.
Who you are
We're open to all types of backgrounds for this role that meet the minimum requirements below. If you want to help shape the future of education, we'd love to hear from you.
Minimum Requirements
You've served as the technical lead for a group of 5+ engineers and defined the technical roadmap for a user-facing product.
10+ years of engineering experience — you still write excellent code and effective prompts.
You've worked closely with product and business teams to drive business impact (i.e. you measure success in terms of impact, not just lines of code).
Preferred Requirements
The user-facing products you've built have been in the education space or have LLMs at their core. (Double bonus if both!)
You're up to speed on modern development tools; you use project management tools like Linear (preferred) or GitHub Projects to plan cycles and consistently ship.
You leverage tools like Cursor to write more code, faster, and are committed to building an engineering team with this AI tooling at its core.
Work at Eigen
Base salary ranges from $350,000 to $475,000 per year, and we're looking for a full-time, remote teammate to fill this role. In addition, this role is eligible for a cash bonus of up to 150% of annual compensation based on outcomes.
The role also includes great benefits (401k, medical, dental, and vision). Total compensation package will depend on experience, qualifications, and location. We are a fully remote engineering team headquartered in Austin, Texas.
Why this opportunity is unique
Education is experiencing its most profound transformation since the industrial revolution. While many EdTech companies struggle to influence change from the outside, Eigen's partnership with Alpha School is reimagining education from the ground up through ownership and operation of its own network of schools.
At the heart of this revolution is "2 Hour Learning" – a breakthrough learning model that helps students master core subjects in just two hours per day, freeing them to pursue deeper interests, projects, and real-world applications. With proven results across hundreds of students and significant backing to expand nationally, this model is positioned to reshape how future generations learn.
As a member of our core Apex Team, you'll build the technology platform driving this transformation. Your code will immediately impact real classrooms, not theoretical users. Working directly with teachers and students, you'll solve complex challenges in adaptive learning and help scale a model that's already showing remarkable outcomes.
