Founding Engineer - Backend

Job Overview:

As a Founding Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing API gateways, portals, and backend services using on Google's Infra. You will collaborate with front-end developers, backend engineers, and security teams to ensure seamless integration, security, and scalability of our API platform. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in APIGEE implementation, microservices architecture, API management, AI Agent Development and enterprise-grade API solutions, as well as a deep understanding of cloud environments like Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

We are a startup in stealth mode looking for Founding Engineers with experience in development from scrach to be a part of our Engineering and Technology team while scaling the B2B SaaS product which is already in MVP stage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement API connectors to support the integration applications. Work on API proxies, API products, and rate-limiting/throttling, ensuring efficient API traffic management and smooth functioning.

• Work with hybrid environments, such as On-prem Developer Kit clusters, to ensure flexible deployment options for clients. Collaborate with the front-end development team to seamlessly integrate APIs with UI components. Ensure smooth communication between front-end applications and backend services via API integration using APIGEE.

• Implement API security standards, including OAuth, JWT, and SAML-based authentication, ensuring compliance with enterprise security requirements. Manage API traffic and safeguard data with proper tokenization and encryption techniques.

• Develop APIs with tenanting and multi-tenancy capabilities to support various client environments. Ensure proper isolation, data segmentation, and performance optimization in a multi-tenant environment.

• Utilize GCP resources and relevant SDKs in the context of APIGEE to ensure seamless API deployment and operations on GCP. Leverage GCP’s managed services to optimize API workflows and improve performance.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to APIGEE and API failures to maintain high reliability and performance. Perform regular health checks and implement monitoring tools for proactive issue detection and resolution.

• Optimize API performance by monitoring latency, throughput, and error rates and ensuring the system scales with client needs. Document API specifications, design decisions, and configurations for future reference and knowledge sharing. Promote API design best practices, ensuring consistency across all services and adherence to industry standards.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience with GCP, APIGEE API Management, AI Agent Platforms, including API proxy development, API monetization, hybrid deployments, and APIGEE Portal customization.

• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, API-first design principles, and hands-on experience with building and deploying scalable API solutions. Strong JavaScript skills for custom API logic and integration, including the ability to write effective API scripts and transformations.

• Awareness and implementation of enterprise security, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and best practices for securing APIs. Experience with SaaS architectures, especially related to multi-tenant systems and delivering APIs to multiple clients in a secure and scalable manner.

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, its API-related services, and SDKs that integrate with APIGEE. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot API-related issues, ensuring platform reliability.

Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors / Masters in Computer Science or IT with 3+ years of experience.

Experience with other cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus along with knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and API lifecycle management tools. Familiarity with other API management platforms (e.g., AWS API Gateway, Kong, or MuleSoft) is also an added advantage.
