About the job

Who We Are

At Topanga, our mission is enable food service operations to waste less and save more. Backed by leading VCs, we are an enterprise SaaS business at the intersection of sustainability, AI, and automation for kitchens. Our products are used by the leading food service providers in the world (think Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass) to transform their kitchen operations so they reduce waste and improve workflows. We accomplish this through our award-winning ReusePass program and our latest product, StreamLine, a food waste mitigation and workflow automation tool.

As a team, we're passionate about solving hard problems. Through questioning, disagreement, and ultimate commitment to the chosen direction, we not only believe we will end up in a better place, but that the journey will be more rewarding for all involved. We are fiercely objective and seldom dogmatic.

What to expect

You should expect Topanga.io to be an early-stage technology company with product market fit and on the brink of explosive growth. You should expect a strong sense of mission and direction accompanied by constant testing and iteration. You should expect priorities to be well communicated but subject to change. You should expect opportunities to innovate and explore new paths to be abundant if you want to pursue them.

We are a remote first distributed team with an office in Los Angeles that strives to compensate above market for the given role and stage of the company. You should expect an unlimited PTO policy and a culture that promotes using at least three continuous weeks every year. (Yes, 12-days camping with no cell service is encouraged. Fresh air is good for us). We sign off at 2:30pm on Fridays, observe long weekends, and respect that some days you wake up and your head just ain’t in it.

You should expect to be challenged. But you should also expect an organization that wants to hear about it, understand it, and work to avoid it. We encourage each other's pursuit of hobbies and experiences outside of work. We acknowledge that careers tend to be zig-zags, not straight lines. This is great as long as the time spent working is fulfilling. Basically, our jobs do not define us, but they can add purpose.

Who you are

You’ve likely had a year or two of work experience, but the communication skills of a long time employee. That means you are tailoring your communication style to fit your audience, whether that’s the Executive Chef at a hospital, a Director of Food & Beverage at a hotel, or a Sustainability champion at a college campus. Your resilience and grit are two of your strongest traits—you don’t let a bad day or a bad call stop you; instead you focus on the next opportunity with optimism. You should be naturally curious and a world-class listener. You aren’t just going through the motions of a call script, but engaging in real conversation, probing deep into what a prospect is saying and adjusting your pitch accordingly. Ideally, you have a year of outbound sales experience under your belt already, or if you don’t, you make up for it with being coachable and resourceful. Ultimately, you have goals to meet and when you do, you’ll be rewarded.

On a day-to-day basis you are getting scrappy: identifying prospects, building outreach lists, and engaging with prospects via email, phone, and LinkedIn. It would be great if you’re familiar with Marketing & CRM Sales tools such as Salesforce, ZoomInfo, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator. If not, you’ll have to become an expert quickly, and we’ll help you. You occasionally might travel to a conference or two to provide support and spend additional time with our prospects. Your daily work will lead to generating qualified opportunities (meetings!) with net-new clients across a range of industries including Healthcare, Colleges & Universities, and Hospitality. You are the tip of the spear in Topanga’s sales efforts, but not the closer, yet.

Salary is in line with experience and market + variable comp based on performance. Think $75k-$85k + variable comp with wiggle room.

This role would ideally based in Southern California.

If interested, please send a paragraph or two on why you are the right candidate for this role as well as your resume to [email protected].
